My first Spyderco

Post by LDB »

Well at least sort of. I got a Byrd Cara Cara Rescue at House of Blades. It is not the 2 version but the original (I presume). I really like it but the clip has a stronger than a death grip hold when it's in my pocket. I wear 5.11 pants that have the heavy material with a reinforced tab in addition to that. I'm thinking it's going to be a not EDC knife because it is too difficult and slow to get out of my pocket. I don't want to spring the clip so it will be my jacket pocket knife during the winter and not sure what during the summer. I like it though. It's my first from the Spyderco family of knives and my first sheepsfoot blade. I'm afraid it's the first of the addiction too but such is life.

That's my biggest gripe about the Byrds. Pocket clips so strong they're useless. I took all the clips off all my Byrds.

The 2nd gen Byrds seem to have the Spyderco hour glass clip. I'm looking forward to trying a Meadowlark 2 very soon. It looks like an awesome beater/loaner EDC.
