When will Spyderco issue blades made from S30V, S60V or S90V? Are these types indeed so good?

I believe S30V is being used in the WTC knife. I'm not 100% sure about this. The info should be discernable from the main page of this site. Also, I think the Trakk'r is supposed to use one of these metals too.

Feel free to correct me if I'm totally wrong.

From what I hear, the S60V is being planned for the new version of the Military(along with the Compression Lock).

You don't need to worry about any steel, that Spyderco is currently using, as being inferior. I have Spydies in GIN-1, ATS-34, ATS-55, VG-10 and CPM440V. Whereas some may hold an edge, i.e. "perform", better than others, they are all very dependable and are there when you need them.

Survive, Adapt, and Overcome...

There is much more to a good knife then blade steel. Using the same exact steel, one company or knife maker can heat treat differently, making the knife the best one ever or a total dog (bad blade).

Case in point, I have custom 1095 knives that handily out perform factory knives in Carbon V (Cold Steel), 1095, ATS-34 and, other lesser steels.

Heat treat and edge geometery are what count, blade steel by itself is way over rated.

CPM 420V and 440V correspond to 90V and 60V. I have a Starmate in 440V (S60V) from Spyderco.

Checkout http://www.crucibleservice.com/datash.cfm for steel details.

Spyderco pioneered the use of S60V in production folders. Spyderco continues to use its original Crucible designation, CPM-440V.

Spyderco's first S30V folders will be coming along shortly.
