New guy - you all have cost me a LOT of money!

Hello all!

I've been a lurker here for a while, and I finally decided to register. I've learned a lot here. And, dammit... it's cost me some serious bucks!

I've got a nice little collection of Spydies going with more on the way. I have quickly become afflicted with an addiction. And, I seem to be drawn to sprint runs. Ah... the siren-song of exclusivity!

My favorite EDC so far is the first Spyderco I bought, which is a Caly 3 in carbon fiber. Love the feel of the CF scales. The wire clip carries nice and deep, which I feel is better especially with my usual business attire during the workweek.

My 2nd Spyderco was a Endura 4 in Foliage Green G10 with FFG blade. I've carried it a few times. It's a beaut!

This weekend I decided to try carrying my new Native LWT with black blade. I also recently got a Manix 2. Haven't carried it yet, but I think it may become a favorite.

Recently got a Tenacious as a "knock-around" knife. I was quite surprised at what you get for only $30!

I've got a couple more Manix 2s ordered (an Orange G10 and a XHP in Foliage Green G10).

Also just pre-ordered two Paramilitary 2s (CF / S90V and Carpenter Steel / G10 in gray).

Is there a 12-step program for this??? ;) What I really like about Spyderco knives is the value. Some serious quality for a good price. They just feel good in my hands. Does that make me weird? :o

I'm also a gun nut!

Hi Racer,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx much for the support.

As a racer,(cars, bikes, sailboats, roller skates, etc.) that likes guns and knives, I can definitely say you're weird. ;)

Congrats! I've been eyeing the Caly 3 and Manix 2 myself-I think my uses are quite similar to yours too!

I didn't think I'd really have much use for an EDC knife. But, the guys on the gun forums had convincing arguments. So, I thought I'd get a Spyderco as my first real folding knife and try it out. I was really surprised at how often I reached for it for a variety of tasks! And, then I bought another... and another... and another. Again... what has impressed me is the quality, fit, finish, and engineering of the Spyderco knives - all for a very reasonable price, IMO. And, then they come out with these really cool "sprint" runs, and I simply cannot resist!

Welcome to the forum, your story sounds very familiar. About two years ago I didn't own a single Spyderco knife. I haven't done a recent count, but with pre-orders, knives in the mail, and two Mules out for scales I think I now have more than 100 Spyderco knives. Thanks to the book, Total Money Makeover, by Dave Ramsey, my wife and I are debt free, except our mortgage, so I had the cash to pay for all of them. :spyder:

The money we spend for knives would only be wasted on

food, clothing, shelter and milk for babies.

Welcome aboard!

Yeah, it gets addicting real quick. You've got a nice collection started. I'd seriously look at adding a Sage sometime soon. The CF Sage is one sweet knife.

And while you're at it... you said you like the Tenacious as a knock-around. May as well add a Persistence and Resilience too. They're in the same family and just as good a value.

Welcome Racer, and you're not alone as being both a gun nut and broke after getting involved with these people !! If it's not too late, unplug your computer and run for the hills, otherwise, as I've found in short order, it might already be too late !!!!
It all started with only wanting to replace a 15 yr. old Endura that I thought I had lost, which was a gift from my nephew, with a Manix2. It starts out so innocently in the beginning. The only saving grace I've found, is that they're not as costly as guns and ammo, and easier to carry, usually, unless you try to carry your whole collection at once.
BTW, nice Macro work there too !
