My Mule

#1

Post by Franciscomv »

It took ages to get this done. The knifemaker who did the work for me got sick, then his first son was born, and a million other things got in the way. But I finally have my Mule just the way I wanted it!

The blade was a very generous gift from Yablanowitz (thanks again!). I had a knifemaker mate of mine grind off the guard and add a bit of jimping.

The handle slabs are amboyna burl polished with beeswax (I love the colour) and held with hollow rivets. The sheath is a beautiful thick leather similar to what I use for my saddles. Only the edges are dyed because it had such a nice natural colour that we didn't want to mess with it. Just a little wax to waterproof it.

The stains where the blade meets the handle are just some excess wax.

Congratulations on getting it done at last! It looks like it was well worth the time, it turned out great.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Wow I love the pattern in the wood. The rich color really sets it off nicely. I'm sure it was worth the wait now that it's in your hands!
