The cutting competition is quite an event to be involved in or watch. We have a video in our store running all day and we have a number of competition knives on display.

It's interesting to note that most sports involving some type of "weapon" or "tool" have always had some type of formal competition. Everything from shoothing guns and bows to chainsaws compete................except knives.

Bruce Voyles came up with the idea a number of years ago and some very dedicated people have spent a great deal of time and effort creating and refining this competition. My hat is off to all of them. It has not been an easy task.

IBladeSports cannot express enough gratitude to you, Sal and Spyderco. Without your support, and encouragement, BladeSports would have a very difficult time becoming what it has and will become.

As a sponsored cutter, I have been fortunate to have Spyderco in my corner.

Got a chance to watch the competition at last year's celebration...sorry that I couldn't make it up there this year. Been going to Lebanon nearly every year since '97. Really enjoyed the BladeSports and definitely learned alot talking to some of the people involved.

Here are the Competition videos embedded (for your pleasure). Between my video of the course description and these showing the cutters in action, you get a pretty good idea of what is involved...but you still need to go to the events to get all the behind the scenes action and free flow of knowledge!

The walkthrough was interesting, I learned a bit about the finer points. Thanks for putting it up.

You are very welcome. I figure these events are not exactly in everyones backyard and learning some of the particulars makes understanding and respecting the skills involved that much easier. Reaching this understanding without attending the event and seeing things up really close is difficult at best.

Having been to an event I can better understand that it will be worth traveling a lot farther to see these in the future! Hopefully some of the stuff shared in this thread helps others to discover/interpret the value of these events and this organization.
Thanks,
