AUS-8 or AUS 8A

Does anyone know the difference between AUS-8 and AUS-8A steel when used in knife blades?

I posted that same question months ago and if I remember correctly the answer was that AUS-8 is just the steel without the heat treat. The blade steel with the heat treat is AUS-8A. I'm not really sure though. I hope the more knowledgeable guys will chime in soon.

I believe that AUS-8A is annealed AUS-8, IIRC - could be wrong.

Aichi Foundry makes a steel called AUS-8. Some of the makers call it 8A for short. There is no AUS-8A.

Trainers should be heat treated as well.

Any Spyderco's marked AUS-8A was in error. Probably a misunderstanding.

The only place I've seen a reference to AUS-8A is on Cold Steel knives. They actually call it Japanese AUS-8A. I didn't ask them this question because their answer could be biased. I know they wouldn't say something like "AUS-8 is better than what we use." If there wasn't any difference I would wonder why use the name AUS-8A. Just curious.

I would probably ask a collector.

Post-sale appreciation is probably not as high on the concern list of Spyderco as it is for us. ;) Then again, it's pretty much the only investment if NIB is almost guaranteed not to depreciate over time.

i wouldnt see it being worth anything more because of it, i only wanted it because it was something different for the Delica collection

its not to computer it is the camera. here is what i mean, lets say you have an 8 megapixel camera, that 8 megapixel is the biggest picture it can take, it will be adjustable to a smaller megapixel, meaning smaller photo

ORIT, you can use imageshack (or another image hosting site) to upload pictures and choose the resize option. If you insist on using the attach feature, it might be a couple extra steps, though.

i guess what im asking is, on my old microsoft computer at work it had the PAINT program where you could easily import the picture and sized it down, save & then import here and everything is fine.

i use my brother apple laptop now, does apple have a program like that on this thing? even when editing a picture i cant find any resizing function.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I had a comment and a question. First, you can resize pictures on a Mac using Preview. That's the default program for opening photos anyway.

Now the question: are the trainer knives heat treated? I have opportunity to pick one up but it's only useful to me if I can put an edge on it.

I'm fairly certain they are heat treated. I'm equally certain they aren't heat treated to a high enough RC to hold a decent edge.
