Can anyone tell me about the sage 2 Ti or Native Forum edition? Reason being is I would love to, and have the chance to purchase a native forum nib at 130 $ [also if you think this is reasonable], I wouldnt really use it, but would flick it open and close :p . Or the Sage 2 Ti assuming that these two could be similar in price. I havnt hard much about the natives so I wanted to get a sense for it. Thanks in advance.

IMO, any of the Sages are more fun to flick open and closed than the Natives (I just have a regular black Native, and a CF Native). The Native is a great knife, but the action isn't as smooth, and the hole isn't as easily reached. The Sages are fast, easy and smooth. I prefer the Sage 1 to the Sage 2. My Sage 1 just seems slicker and faster (at least for me). Plus, I like the texture of that soft CF more than the Ti scales.

Thanks for your input! Its very informative. I would love to get both sages [kind of like a collection, I think its amazing because its not like your going up just the newer model, but theres a reason behind it, and each one is dedicated to a specific function [michael walker for the liner lock, and sage 2 for the chris reeve RIL, and we shall see what comes next in the sage line, perhaps the lockback? :p not sure what "exotic" material, hopefully it is another "exotic" that would be really cool to have a special for each]

The two reasons that are keeping me from the sage is 1. I graduated from university of washington school of nursing just this past june, and [yea the native is a 2009 special, but eh] its purple with my schools colors. 2. Its a limited edition, so makes it feel "special". Whereas I may have a higher chance of getting a sage 1 later in the line.

Thanks everyone for their inputs. Its interesting to read, and I apologize for this thread ending up as part of my crusade between knives :p

The Sage 3 should be coming out late this year. It will have the Blackie Collins bolt action lock. It should be very cool. I think it's supposed to have some kind of blue, sculpted G-10 scales, IIRC.

Phrenik wrote:To each his own :p and if i end up cutting myself on accident, while mishandling it then its my fault and I am the only one that gets hurt. And I understand your concern, particularly in some situations for example driving or something. But I just want you to know that I am doing this just while watching a TV show and im using the thumb hole to open it up and using the lock back to drop the blade and using my thumb to close. And for most things, the first few times/hours at the least, that it is in my possession, it would have my full attention because I turn into a little kid and marvel at my new purchase. However I am at the point, with some muscle memory, where i can hit the lock back, and know how much force or pressure I need to just get the blade to drop enough so it wont go in or, so it doesn't engage the [dont know what its called, but when its close to closing theres pressure to close?] pressure closing feature thingy [cool word choices eh?]. So just your peace of mind :p thanks for the concern. [there is no sarcasm intended in this statement]

-- Moving foward, It seems like many people really like how the sage feels, is there a particular between how CF and Ti feels? I know its subjective but I don't have any access to test these out myself, plus they are a bit pricey to buy both X.x I am thinking of getting the forum 2009 purple native though. Its something that caught my eye. [including the serrated native, that looks so beastly]
Missed this ^^^ the first time. A year ago I had an accident that could easily have been fatal due to lack of due attention to a live blade. So...accidents can happen...I focus a lot more carefully on what's going on when I am handling a live blade now.

Safety understood but, for me, I find and full BBL to be fun to just open and close. Dodo is my favorite but the Phoenix and D'Allara are close. CBBL just aren't the same.

I'd actually love to see a Manix trainer. I wouldn't even care whether it was FFG or HG! ;) :p

Thank god its the end of the year. I will be starting my new RN position in sept. So I will have some time to save up extra cash. Im hoping to score a forum knife this year [i missed it last year X.x] and hopefully I can get the sage 3 also [and get the other sages just to have a nice set]

Thanks for the info mate, I have a lot more stuff to look forward to it seems!

My favorite "play" knife is a waved Delica trainer. No worries about cutting myself and the wife doesn't frown about it as much as a real knife.

Each one I carry around the house I "play" with. Sage 2 is my favorite for that. Currently getting the feel foe the Urban and Perrin PPT. All of the knives seem to have a different feel.

Also I try to be acutely aware of where my fingers are especially when closing. I won't rely on muscle memory for this. I can miss a note or chord on my guitar and will suffer no ill effects except to my my pride..lol.

With a Spyderco you can easily lose a chunk of meat. When closing I make sure all of my fingertips are on the scale. It is all to easy to lose one with a very sharp folder. Not a pleasant experience or recovery. Check out this thread. Be careful folks :)

The reason I love my pacific salt so much [im assuming it works with other lock backs to a certain degree] is that when i press the lock back, I have it oiled enough that it depress the blade down just enough to not engage the auto fold whatever, and a bit more room [if you look at your blade spine down, think of the blade being about 80 degrees like < . Which is why it can be so repetitive/fun for me to open and close because i use my fingers to open, depress and close. I hope I can get the same satisfaction from the other types of locks. Don't get me wrong there are times when I flick it since it didnt come down or something and nicks my knuckles/fingers and it bleeds [fortunately and unfortunately my h1 didnt come sharp =/, I mean its sort of sharp but it gets stuck on the paper test each time.]

I don't have one yet, but the Burger/Boker Exskelibur knives seem to be real easy to sit and fiddle with.
