Anybody EDC a kukri?

#1

Post by Franciscomv »

I recently got a C125 Kukri as a gift, at first I wasn't crazy about it but I fell in love as soon as I started using it.

It's just an amazing knife, I just can't put it down. I never thought I'd like it this much, in fact I always considered it sort of goofy looking.

Anybody else has one of this in their EDC rotation?

I do love that design with the pocket clip placement being the only fault I can find. In certain grips it digs into my hand.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Yes, did for a while. Absolutely wonderful. Pretty similar story. Catalog didn't do it justice--a knife that must be used to appreciate it,... pity that it is lost to us. My little experience indicates that the excellent Schempp designs are often a casualty of Spyderco's business model--or maybe the high-end or specialty knife business in general--because there is little practical way for most people to handle most Spyderco knives before purchasing, the odd or different knife becomes too much of a risk when compared to the known.

A lot of Mr. Schempp's knives are the kind of blades that really come alive and realize their potential when you hold them in your hand.

I've carried mine a few times, but like araneae mentioned, the placement of the pocket clip is right where my finger rests making it quite uncomfortable to use.

I recently found a Kris for a good price, and I've been carrying it for the last week. That's one I thought was goofy and I never expected to own, but it's a wonderful knife to hold and use. Now I really want to find an original Persian and mini Persian (for reasonable prices)!

I have been carrying a Kuk daily for a few weeks. One of it's most appealing characteristics for me is how it looks when closed. All smooth integrated curves.
BTW, I took the clip off and carry it in a soft (A.G. Russell) nylon belt pouch. I agree that it feels better in hand without a clip. I have mentioned in another post that I would like peel-ply CF or smoother G-10 scales better than the rough G-10. This is a very user friendly knife.

I'm kicking myself for not getting a kriss and a barong when I had the chance.

The Khukuri is my favorite and regular office carry knife. The foliage green scales don't attract attention, and it's as small as the D4 when closed. However, it's as large and functional as the Para when opened, and has many cool 'afi' features. This knife does has to be handled to be appreciated, but you'll be sold on it in just a few minutes!

Ira

I've been carrying mine for a few days, and it's changed my mind about knife design a bit. I'm a very conservative type (it took ages for me to get into Spydies!) but now I'm thinking that I might be missing out on some great knives because they look a little weird (to me at least).

The only thing better than a new knife is a new knife that gives you an excuse to buy more knives!
