Combination Spydie/ruler/prybar...?

#1

Post by tac »

Can anyone provide info on this? I'm wondering if it's a genuine Spydie, or some kind of homebrew. Same seller has another one listed, with a slightly different slot in the back of the blade.

That is a production Spyderco but it looks like the rear of the prybar was broken and reground. Here's a thread with some information: https://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38401

Another example of how far ahead of their time some :spyder: products were.

Think about all the attention Atwood's pry bars are getting. I find that :spyder: could still compete if the did a revival of the Probe.

The Probe wasn't meant as a general use pry bar. It was intended specifically for harvesting abalone. Which was probably the reason it didn't do well in the marketplace, too specialized. They're not common, especially not with the original harness, but for some reason they don't generate much collector interest.

As for comparisons with Peter Atwood's pry bars, the Probe is probably 10X the size.

I know, but I like the principle.

Dedicated pry bar + dedicated blade.
