Have these been released to the dealers yet and I just missed the memo? They are up on Ebay now. Woot!

YEah I just saw them on pre-order at KC for 38.95. What a bargain!!! I am going to grab one of each color when they come out. No way I'm bidding on those on Ebay. I bet they go for way more than their worth.

I've got 2 on pre-order with a trader but she hasn't been answering PMs for 3 weeks :( Not sure whether to hassle her or whether it's worth waiting for all the colours to be available.

Would be nice if Sal could find out what the schedule is for shipping the different blade shapes & handle colours :)

Awesome price for a really nice knife. :o

But, I do have a question (not a problem)... Why the Gin 1 steel? Is this meant to be a sentimental?

Or is the cost of the other steels going up, thereby requiring the use of gin1 for affordability?

I know Gin 1 is excellent steel. But Spyderco has been us g10, s30v, 154-cm, and h1 pretty much regularly lately. Isn't gin 1 is a slight step down?

Please don't beet me up on this... by no means am I a steel expert.

I think the main aim of this UKPK was to provide a functional but much cheaper knife than the normal G10+S30V blades. Later in the summer it has been suggested (in the Spyderco Supplemental catalogue) that the metal will change to the new CTS-BD1 :)

The listing in eBay is for the UKPK in FRN with Gin 1. I don't understand what you are getting at. Please explain?

So you see the Gin1 altogether going away? Do you think this is some kind of sprint run?

Well, Sal would know better but the way I read it is that originally they planned on using GIN1 because it fitted in with the price-point they wanted to hit and it also worked well with the factory that makes the blades. But recently Spyderco have been working closely with Carpenter Steels who brought out CTS-BD1 and I am guessing Sal just decided to swap production of the UKPK to CTS-BD1 as and when they could ... so it's not really a sprint and they're probably not giving up on GIN1 completely for other models but it seemed good sense to move to a CTS-BD1 UKPK. I'm guessing that if CTS-BD1 had been around 1 year ago then the UKPK would always have been made in CTS-BD1 :)

also consider not everyone they are marketing towards is a "knife nut" and an easy to maintain steel is better for those folks than a super steel which will turn them off when they cant sharpen it. like myself, i am very happy with the victorinox stainless steel and dont need much more. i love spyderco designs but would rather sharpen daily in 2 minutes than buying diamond and more time for zdp as an example.

If it isn't a sprint run I'll wait until they're at dealers before before I order one of each blade style, PE for the leaf and drop point and SE for the rescue. The rescue would be a perfect gift for my son in law.

It(Gin-1) is not a sprint run, just CQI from Spyderco and one of the rolling changes that we have come to expect from the company. Tweak, evaluate, improve, and repeat; onward toward perfection.

The switch to BD1 will be somewhat later than indicated in the mid-year supplement according to Sal.

They are all going to be hollow ground.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

i heard the dp's will most likely will all be done first. all colors/edges. so since the greys have been out in normal stores for about a week (got all 3. love them. so sweet :D worth the long wait) the next color in dp should be coming soon. hopefully. ;)
kc has them still in stock. grab them now. everyone loves grey and blue. maroon not so much. lol.
