I have the old FRN D´fly and it is a good EDC knife but if you need a grippy one get the G10. :)

The grippiness of G10 is not as important here because handle design is more of a factor of how secure a small knife is in your hand.

For larger knives, I vastly prefer G10+exposed liners! :D
I'd agree that, for at least some designs, traction may not be a big deal when the knife is being used, since the handle shape provides security. However, for small knives, it can make opening the knife with one hand much easier.

I like the FRN the best because it's so light..but love the G10 as well...The steel ones are just too heavy!

If you are a southpaw like me, you have two choices when it comes to the Dragonfly, an two only. One is the G-10 which is the only choice if you want to clip. The other is the SS without the clip and either a lanyard or just pocket carry. The G-10 is an easy winner here. I want a pocket clip. The midlock and reversible clip make it the choice of knives for me. The old FRN DF has a molded clip so a southpaw couldn't even take it off if he wanted to. It's a sloppy obsolete design. Can't wait for the new FRN version.

I like the light weight of the FRN dragonfly, but I REALLY like the feel of the G10 one.

I realized I don't always need to have my biggest blade out, in fact when around sheeple at work, a smaller blade is better unless I'm trying to cut a watermelon or something :) ...
I felt the same way about forking over that much dough for the G10 version when I first heard about it too. Then I saw what it actually looked like and ponied up the cash right away. I paid $80 US for mine. Definitely one of my favorite folders.
I EDC'd it at the office today but kept the G10 Caly3 in my EDC bag for safe measure though.

The way the FRN clip goes back so far on the handle makes it so easy to open. I haven't handled a SS or G10, but am sure they'd be harder (with one hand). I considered this long and hard because I was going to maybe get a SS to engrave. The FRN one just disappears in the bottom of your pocket, too. It's very cool and cuts way bigger than it seems. Just my 2 cents.

- best wishes, Jazz.

The G-10 D-fly has replaced all the other small Spydercos I used to travel with to places that have stricter carry laws than AZ (such as CA). It's about as perfect as a sub-3" folder can be feature-wise. I wish it were black G-10 and not FG, but that's just my taste. And I definitely agree with the Deacon about it being easier to open one-handed than other small folders, especially SS ones (although the Lava isn't bad). And speaking of NKP, the two times I've discretely used the D-fly in public for simple cutting chores, I've gotten comments on how "wicked" looking it is...

Hello, first time posting here, I just had my G-10 Dragonfly about a week and i love it, i think i'll buy one for my wife too. I chose it because I needed a new edc knife (lost my Gerber Harsey Air Ranger and the Ladybug is too small) I fell in love with the shape and materials on the G-10 Dragonfly. I guess when FRN version have jimping and cable clip i also buy one or two, dont like the molded clip.

Greetings from Perú!

I like my stainless Dragonfly. If I have to use it in the canteen or front office it will be for light duty only so Im not worried about it slipping too much.May add decal grip IF it does ever feel slippery. It looks very non threatening.I never worried much about that untill I joined this forum. Then again I didn't buy a new knife every month either! So far I used it to open mail and pick splinters out-fine for that.As far as weight I would often carry a Endura FFG or Tenacious and a Endura SE at the same time and also a pair of scissors 5/16 nutdriver and 7/16 wrench daily so it is fine for me.

Has there been any mention of a Salt version of the Dragonfly?

Yep, Sal just mentioned earlier tonight that they're working on ZDP and H1 versions of the Dragonfly but he hasn't responded yet to my follow up question about timelines. He mentioned this when I asked for an update on the new FRN version with wireless clip which he advised should be available in a month or so.

I prefer the G10 Dragonfly.

It feels better in the hand, has a wire clip, and the extra weight makes it feel more sturdy.

The G10 D'fly has taken over as small knife EDC hands down. With the grippy G10, FFG, Jimping & wire clip it's just about perfect. I tried to trade for one for months to no avail and finally ponied up the $71 and it's worth every penny.

I love the design, but wouldn't purchase an FRN Dragonfly ever again. The last remaining FRN model with an integral zytel clip. Back a few years ago when such clips were common, they snapped off.

The G10 version is worth the money.

You do understand that the new FRN Dragonfly will have a wire clip?
