Manix 2 CTS-XHP

Got one 2 days ago and it's my third Spydie. It's awesome! First Golden made one (I have a Sage 1 and Delica FFG blue). Compliments my Sage 1 nicely.

What has the feedback on the Carpenter steel been like? I've heard generally good things, but has anyone gone out and used it hard? (not abusive, but like a proper knife).

Also I've always wondered, how strong is the Cage ball lock? Has anyone conducted tests on the strength? I don't plan on smashing it against locks, but I've always wondered how their ability to handle stress compares to a liner lock or a backlock. Sorry for all the questions.

My wallet hates me.

That looks superb - nice catch :D

I don't have a cage-ball myself but the ball-locks, like BM AXIS locks are very well respected and usually have some of the best strength of any lock. I have a D'Allara ball-lock and, although you'll have to forgive me for not hammering it :D , I can't see any way that it would fail :) They are less easy to unlock than liner or back-locks so there is less chance of accidentally releasing it too.
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

I just got a black Manix 2. I agree with you, they are awesome. I don't think you have anything to worry about with the lock. It's crazy strong. See this torture test someone from the forum did: http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40465

Where'd you get it? I just got bad news on my YCS order of the FFG green Manix that they are now not expecting anything until September! Well I ordered BEFORE the initial release date! So if anyone knows where I can buy one for the usual online pricing, please, let me know!
TIA,

Bought mine at a knife store in an outlet mall (although the knives weren't at outlet prices). Great knife and my first Manix.
Really like the FFG.

how does this steel react to stropping. Does it have a tendency to roll instead of chip like VG-10

Man I love this knife, it's a real performer.

However I need to know has this been confirmed as a sprint run or a limited production? The price on these has REALLY skyrocketed.

The same seller I bought it from is now selling it for $299 USD!!. Other stores seem to be selling it at that price range. I bought it a month ago for like 155-160ish (iirc). If someone could shed some light on it that would be much appreciated.

EDIT: well looks like Warriors and Wonders is still stocked with a sane price.

Your answer is right here in the forum:

The Foliage Green Manix2 FFG with CTS-XHP is a limited production run of 1000 pieces. The first batch has started shipping through our normal distribution network. The photo is a production prototype and shows a hollow-ground blade, but these are flat-ground.

So another batch of a 1000 will be made soon?

If so then it's strange to see it fetching such a price.

I'm trying to wait patiently for my KC order, which I made about the time the first batch starting arriving. If I get lucky and get it, great, if not I have plenty of others to play with..lol :D
