K-Bar Combat knife 1095 vs 420J2 steel.
I decided to get a couple of K-bar knives. I like the 1095 steel, but am thinking about a stainless version. The "real" k-bars cost about $50 but the stainless copies are $13. How does 420J2 hold up compared to 1095?

That pretty well covers it. Assuming you plan to actually use the knife, 420J2 is pretty much worthless unless corrosion is a significant issue. 1095, properly heat treated, is a good steel for a working knife.yablanowitz wrote:If you plan to use it for a dive knife, or just hang it on the wall and look at it, 420J2 might be okay. If you plan to cut more than one thing between sharpenings, stick to 1095.
