I use Breakfree, on our knives. It sucks for firearms but is great on knives. It dries out before lent and dust can gather in the pivot area, but still leaves a protective coating. If you must use it on firearms, be ready to relube at least every other week! RKBA!

I'm pretty much a fan of Sentry Systems TufGlide. I usually use the TufCloth for blades, and the liquid for lubrication of pivots.

IMO, at least so far as lubrication is concerned, don't depend upon one application. I usually see the best results after 4-5 daily applications. I try to make sure the liquid is evaporated before putting away the knife for the next day's dose.

I probably should follow my own example a little better with the TufCloth, and do more applications. On occasion, with a new knife, I've been known to put a small drop of the liquid on either side of the blade and smear it around with my finger until all the blade is covered. Then I try to let that sit until it has evaporated completely, or at least quite a bit from the original wiping.

I think both products are very good. Too many people swear by both of them, for there to be much wrong with either.

The 1/2oz bottle of TufGlide seems expensive. The 8 oz bottle seems very cheap in comparison. But, the 1/2 oz has the thin hollow wire applicator. And, that 1/2 oz lasts a lot longer than one might expect. It is so thin and penetrating, that very small drops go a long way.

Knife Knut,
The Wally Worlds around here have Breakfree so I would imagine yours would too.

Caleb,
I'm more of a Sentry guy myself. I think the clothes and lube work as well as the hype. The only side bar is I like to use White Lightning for my FRN s. I'm not sure why but it works better than Tuff-Glide (on FRNs, still use Tuff-Glide for SS or G-10).

That's my two bits.

I have ... Break-Free.

Wouldn't mind checking out some Tuf-Glide and a Tuf-Cloth. Anyone know any stores (not online) that sell them??

I use Breakfree C-lean L-ube P-rotect to clean any 'gunk' from a very dirty knife. I then use Militec 1 as it bonds with the metal providing lubrication and corrosion protection even when wiped off. You need to apply Militec 1 to a very warm or hot knife for best flow into pivots or tight clearances. I have seen results of corrosion tests where Breakfree by itself was very effective.

I haven't used Ballistol, butt I've heard good things about it. One big plus for it, its food grade and can be used on knives used for food prep.

I also use Break Free. It smells a little funky, but it works very well, as both a lube and to help protect against rust in the pivot.

I use the Sentry Solutions Tuf-Glide on my Spydies. It works great as a lubricant, as well as, protects the pivots against rust and corrosion.

I use Break Free and Tuff Glide. The Tuff Glide seems to be better at not collecting pocket lint, etc

I use balistol.Take care about choosing the
right lube, some are very poisonous. Check
this forum about it. A couple of months ago
some guy and his girlfriend were in hospital
after preparing food with a lubricated knife.

This is exactly the sort of reason I revive old threads; take a look at the date on "The Stare"'s post.

Recently, I have been looking at 'white lightning' lube coz it's been mentioned a few times before in other forums.

should I go the militec instead? (this is the other one that has been talked about)

I have decided to try Miltec-1 -- not just for my knives and firearms, but because my son-in-law tells me it is the best thing for engines since wheels.

As usuall, the best things in life don't come cheap, and this is no exeception.

Does anyone out there know a place that might sell it for a more reasonable price than Miltec does on their web site? They have a special going on right now, but you have to spend a lot of money to save money.
