Lithium Ion Batteries... Where Do You Get Yours?

#1

Post by CanisMajor »

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of lights that I wanted to get back-up batteries for(Fenix PD30, Inova X5). The batteries are Lithium Ion CR123a. Saw them for about $15 for 2 at a B&M store and figured I could get them cheaper online. Anyone buy from an online dealer or does anyone know of a reputable dealer that sells them? I was looking to buy about 8-12 batteries. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I get lithium CR123A's at Battery Junction for around a buck apiece depending on quantity. Titanium brand, good results in performance tests, and worked well for me.

Note: Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable, they're not the same as plain lithium disposable CR123A's. Lithium-ion's are generally not recommended unless the user is fully educated on their proper use and potential hazards. Apologies if you already knew that. :)

Lighthound and 4Sevens pack a good selection of batteries.
If you use them a lot you should look into RCR123A's, the rechargeable ones. Lighthound has a good selection of those as well. You can also find a nifty rechargeable battery guide on their site. :)

Battery Junction and 4Sevens are both good places to shop for the disposables. I've also ordered from Botach Tactical and haven't had issues, but seem to be one of the few who hasn't. For the little bit of possible savings, I normally recommend either Battery Junction and 4Sevens to other people.

I haven't delved into the rechargeable 123A's, but I did get a couple of the 18650's for my Fenix T11. Now those are impressive, but won't fit the standard 123A lights. I wish I could get something about the size of the PD30 with the 18650.

My # one flashlight only uses one of these batteries so I don't have to buy them too often but Last time I managed to buy them in a three pack for $1.99...The bad news is I don't remember offhand where I got them...I'll check and look for the the pack, problem is I always just dump the batteries into a small draw...I might have to check for the invoice....Doc :D

PM sent.

Some people like to stress that you should only buy Made in USA batteries. Surefires are good, but a little more expensive. I've gone through a few of Battery Junction's CR123's and haven't had any problems with them.

Battery Junction is a good place. If you really like your lights, you can look into the rechargeable cr123, known as LiFePO4. They CANNOT combust like other lithiums, though like all batteries they can vent. They are much safer, and rechargeable. I got mine at Battery Junction, but Lighthound.com also carries them. You have to use the charger that is recommended with the LiFePO4 batteries--it is ONLY for recharging LiFePO4's.

I run LiFePO4 batteries in my Novatac, and it works fine.

When I used CR123a I bought them from Lighthound. I've since standardized my lights on AA.

This is interesting because about 9 months ago I found 3 battery charger kits for 123a batteries at my local Radio Shack for 12.99 per kit. The kits came with 2 lithium ion rechargable batteries along with the charger for $12.99. I'm wondering if any of you guys/gals here are aware of these specific Radio Shack kits?

It's funny because they work great in my "Surefire E2D Defender" model and another Surefire model which takes 2 batteries. But they don't work in any of the Surefire flashlights that take 3 of the 123a batteries  . I'm wondering if any of you are aware of Radio Shack's batteries chargers and maybe there is a reason I got those units so cheap :o ?

I am a firm believer that rechargable batteries are the way to go most of the time.
