"Red Cross" Harpy in red coral and MOP...

"Dragonflies" marquetry Dragonfly...

"Wooden Eagle" Police and matching Kiwi...

"Earthling" Police, matching Kiwi, and "Tequila Sunrise" Kiwi...

Tequila Sunrise version uses a different, more orange, stone for Saturn and was the idea of Bill Wirtel's daughter, Anna. Considering the extreme difference in size between the Police and Kiwi, I find it remarkable how well they were able to preserve the detail of the design.
"Full Panel" black pearl and red coral Kiwis...

From what I understand, the full panel Kiwis were done using all stainless Kiwis at a point where SFSW could not obtain bolstered ones.

Ian...nice range of colors with those 3.
Paul, i am still trying to figure out how they make those wooden eagles. my guess is that they have some sort of laser cutter and they make a big block of the stuff and cut off slices for each knife. if i had to do it i would go nuts trying. as for that red cross harpy, i don't think Hannibal used that version when he slit that guys femoral artery..lol
Wouter, what is in the web of the delica? it looks great.
now for the rest of you, get off your kiester, well you can probably do this sitting down still but get those pics up :D

Tony, not sure about the laser cutter part, but it's my understanding that all the marquetry scales start off as blocks which they then slice into a number of scales.tonydahose wrote:Paul, i am still trying to figure out how they make those wooden eagles. my guess is that they have some sort of laser cutter and they make a big block of the stuff and cut off slices for each knife.

I have always thought these were absolutely gorgeous.

Yes, picasso marble can be very striking. Although I think perhaps "Jackson Pollock marble" might have been a more appropriate name for it. :DHistoricalMan wrote:I know I'm performing necromancy by digging up this old thread, but my word, the picasso marble in Cougar's post is absolutely gorgeous.
Does anyone else have any beautiful pictures to add? :o

I do this all the time, especially if great pictures involved. :)HistoricalMan wrote:I know I'm performing necromancy by digging up this old thread
IMHO this is not necromancy, it is resurrection. :D
Also, if you wouldn't do this may be we will never see this Paul's knife.
And it is gorgeous.
