Fixed Blade For SHROOMING
Sorry I would want a fixed blade Spyder for that type of hunting  :D
I think the Swick model would be great for "SHROOMING"
But if I've got one of my most dearly beloved Temperance 1 models handy then it will get the Shrooming duty for that day
Now if I was to use a folder for Shrooming I would elect to probably use either the Chinese Lum or maybe a Lil Temperance leaf blade model.
But that's just speculation because I'm sure I would use a fixed blade when it's all said and done. If Spyderco ever does come out with a fixed blade Hawkbill that would be the best one for the job

Agree with JD, the Temperance 1 is perfect for the hunt! If anyone has used a different sheath for the Temperance I would be interested in how it worked out, just not crazy about the one I have.
I have a Orange Military I plan to trade but if I end up keeping it then that would be my second choice for a good shroom hunter, If I forgot and set it down to fill the bag with the victims it would be easy to spot in the timber and brush.

Now this is interresting.
This is the third year I have posted my mushroom hunting knife and this is the first time there has been debate about the type of knife to use. I like it!

I propose that next year we have an informal competition for the first member to post a hunting knife picture with their morel.

Shroomin Hardware
As far as aftermarket sheaths for the Temp 1 check with River City Sheaths. I like your reasoning using the orange Military model. That's why I always use my Orange Rescue model when I take to the woods many times.SteelDragon wrote:Agree with JD, the Temperance 1 is perfect for the hunt! There is one other Spyderco model that comes to mind that I think would be just perfect for Shrooming>> The old VAGABOND model I think would be excellent for many reasons. First of all it wasn't very costly to begin with. I'm not crazy about AUS-6 blade steel which that model has but it is relatively easy to sharpen given you would be having a lot of dirt contact.
But after the jury convenes I think the Temp 1 is going to be the clear overall winner. That knife is just perfect for so many demanding cutting jobs.
Another folder I would like to throw out there for a possibility would be the GIN-1 or G-2 Endura model. I think that would also be a Shroomer's dream
