Personally I don't take the remarks as offensive as everyone is entitled to there political views on both sides. The problem is when you present them on a forum that forbids it. It gives no one the opportunity to respond in the public way you presented it there for its kind of like a cheap shot that you know will go unchallenged because if it is challenged then that person will be charged with breaking the rules so regardless of the "side" you are on Keep the political jabs the off the forum.
BTW,, I though this thread was about the end of the world in 2012. We went way off topic...

"Left", "Leftist", etc. are political terms. Liberal - Conservative, Left - Right. You are using these terms in violation of the rules against political discourse on this forum. The Mastiff wrote:All very much true however. I don't see how this insults you. Are you ashamed they are doing this? Is it that you consider yourself a leftist?
Please help me understand how this is wrong or insulting to you?
I'm not one to intentionally go out of my way to insult forum members
As for never insulting other forum members I suppose your reference to me as being from another species was not an insult.

I take political stuff to the appropriate place---there are 1000's of them. My point is that this place should be welcoming of people with diverse perspectives, and attacks, barbs and jabs such as the one quoted above, and listed in my previous thread, aren't welcoming. The Mastiff wrote: If what the left does offends you to talk about it openly you might either move away from the left, or stop being so thin skinned.
BTW, IMO the head in the sand thing is off base too. Sorry I missed it.
I'm not suggesting that contentious issues shouldn't be brought up, you wrote pages of stuff and I only found a half-dozen that made me feel unwelcome. Would your message have been any weaker if you left out the attacks? IMO, no. You are clearly well-read on the issue. More importantly, you have tons of wisdom and experience with knives, gear and etc. that I really want. What I don't want is to be in a position where I throw the baby out with the bath water. I also don't want to be in a position where I "stifle myself" out of respect for the diversity of knife lovers and the forum hosts and am then labeled thin-skinned. I don't want to resent you, I want to learn from you. That's why I'm here and bothering to write anything at all.
If his remarks offend you, put him on your ignore list.Sequimite wrote:"Left", "Leftist", etc. are political terms. Liberal - Conservative, Left - Right. You are using these terms in violation of the rules against political discourse on this forum.

I find it quite telling that you decided to pretend to ignore my previous post . . . The one in which I brought up several points concentrating on the issue of global warming. No personal insults. No bias against those with liberal views.
Just an honest dissection of a con that is argueably far bigger than the stealing of tax-payer dollars to give to the already Uber-rich business men on Wall Street who's greed caused them to plunder their own companies, and create a domino effect in which a significant number of Americans lost their jobs.
I thought you wanted an open discussion about the issue of global warming. I see I was wrong. My apologies for the error in judgement.

Please understand that the issue is not offending someone, it is violating forum rules. This type of misstatement of the other person's post is the reason why this discussion has proved fruitless.Monocrom wrote:If his remarks offend you, put him on your ignore list.
That is why I dropped the issue.

I'd agree that putting labels like left, right, liberal, conservative may bend, if not break, forum rules even though they don't always correspond with political party affiliation.
At the same time I want it to be clear that I consider Al Gore to be a lying sack of excrement and would not put any more faith in his opinions on climate change than I would on his claim of inventing the internet. The only difference being that the later was so easy to debunk that he was forced to come up with an excuse for making it. It's much harder to prove that something which has not yet happened will, or will not, happen.

Rented it from RedBox. Not sure which was further fetched, it or The Day After Tomorrow. Both, however were definitely entertaining. :DBushbadger wrote:Has anyone seen the movie 2012? I watched it last night. Stooooopidest film ever. I loved it! :D

i agree it was pretty stupid, i cant stand movies where cars are driving through buildings that are falling down and barely making it out in just the nick of time, too much of that crap through out the whole movie.
Pretty bold claim. One of the most painfully stupid movies I've seen in recent years was that asteroid movie, no the other one, where the Russian is bashing the computer with a blunt object in order to fix it and Billy Bob or someone has the long tearful goodbye before sacrificing themselves to blow up the asteroid.Bushbadger wrote:Stooooopidest film ever. So when you desire you can just twist things around to other meanings? Are you trying to get me in trouble? :DAs for never insulting other forum members I suppose your reference to me as being from another species was not an insult.
I said this:
and don't try to relate your version of my posts as breaking any rules. Most definitely not for you to decide. We aren't going to agree no matter what on AGW. Our whole thought processes are so different as to make it seem we are of a different species
Once again your way of telling on me?
Near the beginning I stated I didn't like talking about this as it's like talking about religion. People get bent out of shape, and take things personally as you seem to be doing.
You asked the questions, but apparently you don't like the answers.
So, put me on ignore. report me, or just leave this thread alone.
I personally don't feel I ben't any rules. Those who take offense do so on their own . I insulted no one except Al Gore. I brought up no political parties. It is impossible to discuss AGW without making note of the obvious political aspects of it.
I already agreed to stop using terms like leftists as it offends some members feelings. What should we call the left instead. A codeword maybe. How about "hamburger time"?
The right can be , um, "Hot dogs".
That way no one gets offended, right?
No one has to tell on anyone :)
Well, gotta go watch a show on TV about Daisies and drama queens. Later guys.

More about bad data which has been a big problem :
rest of article: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/03/ ... gate-data/E-mail messages obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request reveal that NASA concluded that its own climate findings were inferior to those maintained by both the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) -- the scandalized source of the leaked Climate-gate e-mails -- and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Climatic Data Center.

I think a lot of people are burying their heads in the sand here. While I don't 100% believe in global warming/climate change you can't discount the fact that something is going to happen. Anyone who thinks that the amount of pollution and poisons we pump into the earth and atmosphere has no effect should give their head a shake. Fossil fuels is the major contributer, and everyone looks at everyone else and says, "Well, their doing it, why can't I?" Problem is you get 6,900,000 people being all equally selfish and you are setting up to destroy everything, question is, when will it happen?

I'm not expecting anything to happen when the Mayan calander runs out in 2012..It is my understanding that the Aztecs sacrificed about 20,000 people each year to their gods...wiping out most of the Mayan population in the mix...basically nobody left to continue the calander...end of story....not the end of the world....Doc :D
