I wish it had a slightly more wild drop pointe like the Adventura but the ergos and lok sell it for me. It will prob be well balanced and light.

I guess the non-tactical MBC type knives make the most sense. Better for chores and better if a cop asks to see it. FFG is very sheeple friendly.

That Junior looks like a folding version of the Street Beat. If only it had a clip point blade instead of drop point...

Wow! That Dialex is gorgeous! The design looks very organic, ergonomic and well-conceived. Can't wait to feel it "in hand."

I really like a well-designed drop point as a back-up camping knife (bet North61 could show us how it skins a moose!) and as a general EDC.

Also, as a newish person on the forum, a big thanks to Wouter (Mr Blonde) for his time, thoughts and outstanding photos. He is one of the posters on this forum that I always make time to read -- and it's always worth the time. Thanks!

Respectfully I didn't care for the Adventura...however the "Jr." is one of the better knives in this entire thread. For it to be "perfect" it would need H-1 steel, even if the flat-grind had to be sacrificed, but I will buy it regardless.

(How about a larger fixed-blade in a similar vein...the "Sr.")

Are we going to have to wait to 2011 for it's release?

take care -d.

I don't think the Dialex looks exceptionally good (it doesn't look bad though), but I would like to get one in hand to see how the ergos are... I could see them being perfect! It's also possible that the 'choil' is too deep to be comfortable, I don't know. I would like to try it out to see.

Maybe this one will finally show people a good handle > jimping/thumb ramp. There's no way your hand is moving (like the superleaf).

Mr Blonde wrote:This is a real scoop guys! Eric asked me to share the Junior concept model with you guys. What you have seen so far, are production prototypes. This model is still a concept model, therefore it’s a little further away from production than the previous models. Concept models are usually not allowed to be photographed and published, so this is a real scoop.

Spyderco and Dialex haven’t been sitting on their laurels when the Adventura came out. This is the Junior.

Personally, I can see this design being a favorite for various groups of knife afis. The deep choil, compression lock and wide blade could be very appealing to the MBC crowd. The deep choil also lowers the edge which makes the Junior a kind of folding kitchen knife which could be appealing to the outdoor/camping/EDC crowd. I liked it quite a bit, and I noticed that it started growing on me when I handled it for the second time at the IWA Show.

So, what do you think about this design?

Wouter

my thoughts precisely
I like almost everything about the design: robust FFG blade, open back construction, huge cutout, comp lock; I would have preferred the hourglass-type clip, but I can live with wire clip
death-bringah wrote:How about a larger fixed-blade in a similar vein...the "Sr."
this design begs IMHO for a mega-folder (4''+ blade), think Laci Szabo dimensions

The Jr does look amazing. Good shape on the blade too and the huge CHOIL area before the blade seems almost fool proof. Love the compression lock as well. I wish more knives were made with it. Just got my Para in friday and i already want a Para 2. The only problem i really have with the para is addressed with the P2 4 way clippage. WOOO

Fantastic pictures

My favorites are the PPT, New Para 2, and the Dialex Jr. The FFG G10 Native will be a big hit too.

New Caly looks huge... I guess I'm probably part of a small minority who is holding out for a smaller Caly, not a bigger one.

Still holding onto hope of a sprint run return of the Caly Jr!
Micarta handles... although I think titanium would be cool too.

I like the design of the Junior but found the handle a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps it is just a question of getting used to it.

The PPT is definitely the best looking of the new models and I would love one, though I imagine it's going to be pretty expensive. And I'm probably in the minority here but I actually prefer the look of the old paramilitary, I like it's oddness and blade to handle ratio.

The PPT looks like Ti with G10 over it, but it's also marked Taiwan, so the price most likely won't be too bad.

I'm curious about how Dialex and Mr. Perrin came to be designing knives since they weren't first knife makers? Chad Los Banos too. I do my drawings of knives and such, "designing" them, at least in ways that are to me visually appealing - but I don't mean to be selling myself here. I'm just curious if Spyderco has a process by which someone can submit designs? What is the common procedure I wonder.

I know Dialex has a site and rendered models, which I intend to learn how to do for design in general - anyone know what programs are good for things like that - specially ones that can be animated to fold open and closed and such?

BTW: A great year for Spydercos! I posted it on BF too, but I'm really looking forward to the PPT and Zulu, and possibly the new UKPK's and Chinese - the Dialex looks pretty cool too.

In the video he says the normal production will have "an integral linerlock" but I'm guessing he meant just a framelock? Should be interesting to see. It's a cool little design, and hopefully putting a Spyder on the blade will make it look less eerily empty.

It's sort of like 'spyderco terminology' for the frame lock, the full name they use in catalogs and such is 'Reeve Integral Lock'. It's not just used to honor Chris Reeve, but also to specify the type of lock. Spyderco also used the Integral Compression Lock in the past which is very different but could also be called a 'framelock'.

But yes, the production version Balance will have a framelock. ;)

I heard the word "limited" in the Balance video, at least for the CF version. I think I need to one dealer my new best friend to ensure I don't miss out on any of the these goodies... :D
