Spyderco Meetup?

#1

Post by carpdiem »

Hey guys,

I was wondering if Spyderco meetups were ever organized. I know about the official Amsterdam meet, but I was thinking more along the lines of just small regional meetups of fans, without necessarily an official Spydie presence. Even something as small as a potluck at a local park or campground, so it's some place where people can show off and chat about knives without drawing the worried eye of bartenders (I'd suggest a pub, but I feel like a bunch of people drinking beer and handling knives isn't really the wisest idea).

We've got a really great community here, and it would be awesome to see that extend into an afk community.

So, how about it, who'd be up for a meetup?

If it's in north america and planned for mid to late august I'll drive there.

taking 2 weeks off this summer for a road trip, just gonna point my truck in a direction and drive till I want off the road... unless I find a reason to head a certain direction this year. Gonna be a lot better than my usual summer vacation of hitting a campground and unplugging.

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?

It'd take me 3-4 days to get anywhere near toronto. Mapquest wants to take me through the states, but there might be a shorter path without crossing the border twice. There won't be any long hard driving when I'm on my own time.

Sure would address many of my problems with buying spydies--not being able to hold one in my hand--that's what kept me from jumping on the Schempp designs.

How about east coast, mid-atlantic? From what I can gather, Spyderco Inc exhibits at Blade East in Atlanta and Blade West in Oregon--but nothing near up here in PA.

I was actually thinking of popping down to Philly on the road trip, get a real philly cheese steak... even if that 's the extent of my trip (4-5 days down, day or two there, then turn around and come back home).

even popping down to SFO would be do-able, it's only 2 days of driving to get there.

Hrm... Maybe we would need a couple different meetups? It sounds like there's a lot of interest around Philly, so that would be a good one. I'm personally in the San Francisco area, so I'd be willing to organize something around here.

Where else are interested Spydie fans?

So where are you?

I'd be up for something in the Portland OR to Vancouver BC area.

Don't forget that some people have committed to a national meet up the day before the SFO sale this ??November?? with a knife swap the evening of the sale. I'll be there.

I'd be very interested in a meet with other :spyder: enthusiasts in the New England area.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Well, you should just head toward Martial Blade Camp (27-30 August) and make the adventure complete!
