How is Seki as in Seki City pronounced?

#1

Post by Swampgator »

While I was sitting down admiring my two newest knives a Kershaw Scallion and an Endura serrated in VG10,I wondered how to pronounce Seki City. is it Seck ee City, See Key City, Seck eye City or something else?

Howdy Swampgator! Welcome to Land!

Good pick on the Endura. It's a great little knife that will serve you well. I believe it is pronounced Seck-eee, but I'm not sure.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

SwampGator,

Welcome to -land!! "Tis not often I'll agree with S&S since he carries that syringe full of thorazine and the straight jacket but, the young lad has pegged it right. Allow me to also echo his congrats on the Endura. Should bring you many faithful years of service.

Stay safe! Stay sharp!

Thanks guys. I already own the 98 Endura PE and a Matriarch. Love them both. I have always enjoyed Spyderland because it is full of friendly folks and Sal and Co. are very responsive to our wildest wishes. I am very intrigued by the prospects of getting a large Harpy one day.

Swampgator,
In Japanese, "e" is pronounced with a long A sound and "i" is pronounced with a long E sound, so it would probably be along the lines of "Say - key" City with the emphasis on the first syllable. Enjoy your spydies.

Mark.

Spydieman,

Tomodachi desu! Arigato gozaymasu!

You are 100% correct - although nut's pronounciation is correct among many scattered social sub-cultures like our motley gang of Forumites gathered here . Good to see your smiley faces this evening, Mike!

Mike,

Ahhhhhh! Free range coffee beans! Same great flavor none of the chemical additives. Sorry I took a while to respond - using a little company time here. Gonna head to the Where's Samo post and see if the meandering missing Malaysian has strolled on in yet. Stay well my sharp edged brother!

Gomen Kudasai

When I lived in Japan, it was pronounced

Seck ee Shee
Secki City

However, I believe SpyderNut had it right.

Is Seki City the traditional home of japanese steel, in the way that Solignon is for Germany, and Sheffield is for the UK?

Seki city is the traditional Japanese city for steel. There are a lot of great knives produced there, including but not limited to several Spyderco's.
