History has been created...

Dear Forumites,

Saturday, 13 July, 2002 will be ever remembered as the day history was created. I received a package from none other than our fellow forumite Java. I was wxpecting something but was really surprised to see what i got. I opened the box and there were two beautiful Spydercos. One black ladybug combo edge in the clam pack and one Stainless steel Copilot in plain edge in the black card box.

Man was i agog with excitement. Not only am i a proud owner of Spyderco knives but, I got two instead of one and these are undoubtedly the first Spydercos in these latitudes and climes (India).

All my appointments for the rest of the day were cancelled and i was like a small child, exploring the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>s. To say the least they are great. I even managed to cut myself with the ladybug <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> but it was nothing harmful.

I essentially forgot that i had a wife, that i had jobs to do and that people were waiting to hear from me. Time slowed down and i began working the co pilot first with the right hand and then with the left hand. Using the trademark round hole and the thumb were at first clumsy but hey i am reasonably adept with the thumb pull opening as i write this. Surprisingly although my right hand is dominant, i find that i can open the copilot more deftly with the left hand (i.e. using the "thumb pull" single hand opening).

I cannot put into words my excitement and joy at seeing these <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> "in the flesh" in my hand. And i cannot bring myself to use them as EDC. I'm paranoid that i may drop them or that others may cast their evil eye on it and render it useless - especially the copilot. I've oiled it already (not because it was not oiled in the box. It was. but it's an excuse to pamper the copilot and the Ladybug<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)

I just want to place on record my sincere gratitude and thanks to Java for making this happen. I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this thing to make this happen, Java. In another thread i just asked whether the ladybug was useful and you replied with an answer that at that point in time i could not understand. Now i do!

Thanks Java. I really appreciate it my friend.

Kaizer.

Hi Kaizer,

Soon you'll realise that <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> products is equivalent to Netsuke (a Japanese subject, discussed in previous threads). This is an object which by handling it, you can feel calmness & serenity. Can you feel it now? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Next step, you'll want the larger <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, then the medium size, then you'll want everthing...

Kaizer - Life altering experiences tend to come upon one quite unexpectedly. The winds of change now blow fiercely about you. Life before the little creatures will soon become a blur on some distant horizon seen through a glass darkly. Even sooner, you shall realize that life is not possible without a little bug at hand. And then another... And then yet another...

And then...

And then...

Well all that can be said is that it is truly serendipitous that the inmates are running the asylum...

Best wishes for you and your Spy dies. I would warn you about the Spyder bug, but we both know that it is far too late for that, don't we?

(Java, you wily caffeine infused dog, you have struck once again! . I begin to wonder why we even worry about the bite of the little bug.)

Kaizer,

Happy to see the Spydies made the perilous journey quickly and safely. Sorry (sort of) that you’ve been bitten so hard by the Spyderco bug. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> For Pete’s sake don’t ignore the job thing too long – it’s a necessary evil that allows you to feed the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. We have to keep the wife happy too! Convert her as well – perhaps a pink Ladybug or fuschia Jester is in order.

Sword and Shield was right! It is best if I am allowed to roam free and infect others with the Spyderco Virus! And now, a foothold in the most populous democracy on the face of the planet. The hook is set. Once the symptoms abate and you are able to function again your duty will be to convert all you meet to the Way of the Spyder. Today the Indian sub-continent Tomorrow Asia. Next Friday the World!!! (Are you pondering what I’m pondering, Java! Phew!! Java’s had one to many trysts with the Warner Sister, Dot)

Here's to our newest Spydie owner - may your Bugs ever multiply and serve you well!

And thanks to all the great folks here at the Forum for their input and support!

Stay safe! Stay sharp! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Kaizer,
Enjoy those Spydies!!

Java,
I was thinking more along the lines of "Pinky and the Brain". Trying to take over the world.

Nicely done Java!

Congrats to you Kaizer. The Co-Pilot will find many excuses for you to take it for a walk. Packages (with <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> inside), letters, flowers, weeds, cleaning nails, dividing fruit, on and on and on and ........

Blades: Were you pondering what I was pondering, Java?

Java: I think so, Blades, but wouldn’t his movies be more suitable for children if he was named Jean-Claude van Darn?

Blades: "Tonight, we shall use the power of static electricity to conquer the world... Static will entrap the world in its own garments...To generate global static cling, we shall construct a massive clothes dryer. Behold, the Titanocycle 4000, with 3 speeds and automatic wrinkle guard. It will be huge...the lint screen alone will be a half-mile long. Unfortunately, a dryer of this magnitude will cost 14 billion dollars and 59 cents."

Stay safe! Stay sharp! Stay tuned for the Pinky and the Brain World Domination Tour!! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Congratulations, Kaizer, tell me who's the man?
I also got my PE Copilot from Java. He's a very generous man and a great forumite. The Ladybug was my first spidie. Still wonder what cutting power rests within.
Kaizer, enjoy them both, I'm in your shoes bro, as I'm the only person in my city (at least) that not only knows of <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, but also has some <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Kaizer,

You are not alone in having <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s multiply in shipping. Java was kind enough to add two knive to the Harmonichiba order for me (pink ladybug and blue jester). Imagine my surprise when there was a yellow Hokaru in the box with them. The <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> gestation period is extremely fast. Thanks again Java. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
