Delica G10 - AWESOME KNIFE

#1

Post by Chopping Broccoli »

Just received a Delica 4 G10. Probably my favorite knife to date. I already owned a few FRN Delica's but this one takes the cake. I kind of like my knives to have a little heft to them. This one feels solid in my hand, buttery smooth opening and closing, and the lock sounds like a bank vault. Well done Spyderco.

Now for my complaints. This would probably be my grail knife, my go-to knife, my EDC knife, whatever you want to call it IF it came in a better G10 color than puke green, black or brown would be great...nice and simple AND the clip was a lower profile design. I love how low my Sage 1 wire clip rides in my pocket. You can barely see it when it is clipped to my front pocket. IF the G10 Delica had a similar low profile clip and came in a better G10 color, I could probably stop buying knives, pick up 3 or 4 of this grail variation as users and backups and be done with this whole collecting knife game. Its been fun but I think I've almost found the knife I never knew I was looking for.

If your not happy with the color, you could use RIT dye to make it black, its the only color you could really dye it.

Low rider clips do have their place. Which IMO is on smaller personal / gents folders or on something that's designed as concealed weapon.
For something that's designed as work knife it's far more useful to be able to retrieve the knife from your pocket easily and reliably, that's not so easy with low rider clips.
For me it's really about carrying a knife that's designed specifically for your intended use. While I don't advertise that I carry a knife (my reason for disliking shiny clips), nor do I feel the need to conceal it either.

It is a sweet knife isn't it. The puke green is starting to grow on me a bit too. I doubt I'll dye the handle. I'd probably make it worse if I tried to do something like that.

I would love to know if anyone has made or knows where to get a low rider wire clip to use on a Delica 4.

The G10 Delica is one of my favorite smaller knives. Foliage green grew on me, as I wasn't to thrilled with it at first. It really does blend in with my khaki pants and even jeans. I almost want to strip the clip and paint it foliage green lol I like lower riding clips too but on this knife I don't mind the clip. The FFG is really nice as well. I use it alot in the kitchen too surprisingly.
As far as getting clips made I believe STR still does them. He is a member here.
Take care!

I think a low riding clip on a G10 Delica would be great. An anodized dull black clip would be good too. I am seeing other knife companies making a low riding clip which can be reversed for right or left hand carry. I would definately buy a serrated G10 Delica made like this.

It would be cool if Spyderco made after market replacement clips so users could choose amongst the various types of clips. A low riding wire clip on the G10 Delica would make a great knife even better.

Stripped clip looks real nice with the FG, better than black IMHO.

Simple man - That clip looks good on the G10 Delica.

I just ordered a G10 Endura. On sale for 69.95 at knife center. Also added a Smallfly to my order for $99. I'm looking forward to this package arriving in the mail.

That is a great price, I picked my third one up from Poorfish/Ebay a couple weeks back or I'd be ordering that one. Two backups should be plenty, maybe, hopefully...

Sorry, but I gotta revive this old thread. I just got Delica G10 for a song on ebay (luck). It wasnt a knife that I was dying for but I felt like I needed to get one since it is classic Spyderco. I have to say that this I really like this knife. It is just solid and looks great. Nice size for my office EDC, great FFG slicer, hefty/grippy handle (no, it doesnt have a choil, but thats not a requirement for me). And I dont know about everyone else, but there is something about the blade shape on the Delica/Endura lines that appeals to my eye. I like that shape even more than the Caly/UKPK leaf shape  (I said like more not dislike!). Like I said this is just a solid knife - truly represents the core values of Spyderco.

The Green G-10 Delica was the knife that really hooked me on Spyderco. The fit and finish are fantastic and the knife operated so smoothly. A darker green would be nice, but might look a little too "plastic" so I can live with the color. It works a little better on the Manix 2 spring knife.
