Thanks SmoothOne! The pics are much appreciated and showed me exactly what I was looking for.
Wow... huge difference in the position of the tip on the Urban. It's tip rides nice and deep in between the scales in comparison to the UKPK.
Funny that I had completely written off the Urban previously, intending to buy the UKPK.... and now I am thinking the complete opposite. :P
Thanks for all your time SmoothOne! Your fine photography skills have greatly influenced my decision.

Yeah, like he said, a couple of those shots seemed to show what he was looking for just fine. Unless the blurriness somehow created an illusion that dramatically misrepresented the position of the Urban's tip, I'd say you managed to complete the mission alright.SmoothOne25 wrote:once agian i am sorry to keep you waiting forever then not deliver. my apoligies :o
Also, here's the best photo I was able to find of a closed Urban. It doesn't really show the point, but it gives an idea of where it rests and again suggests that it's probably pretty low: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thirteenof ... 702603956/
However, a couple things for Shifty to note:
- The UKPK Rescue has a tip that seems to sit much lower than the other versions (I've never seen a leaf or drop point version in person) due to the straight edge; I'd eyeball it as sitting about 2-3mm below the edge of the scales. If you're ok with that blade style, it might be an acceptable UK option for you. You'd lose the plain edge and full flat grind but keep the larger size and S30V.
- All of the photos we've seen here are of the orange Urban, which also has a straight edge just like the UK Rescue. With that in mind, it's possible that it also sits lower than the leaf Urban, so you probably can't assume from these photos that the fg Urban would be acceptably covered for you. But if it's the orange Urban that most interests you of those options, it looks like you're probably good to go.

Well...... if you're offering and you're bored lol
SaturNyne is exactly right about me forgetting that I wasn't comparing similar blade styles (thanks for that SN! I can't believe I didn't catch that). I knew the Wharnie would be good to go, but for some reason I forgot that the orange Urban is not a leaf blade. Is there any way you could take some similar pics of the foliage green urban to show where the tip sits?

For what it's worth, the UKPK leaf blade's tip is completely covered by the handle, deeply or not. I've carried one pretty regularly for almost half a year with no issues. As long as it is covered, I can't see how the depth of coverage matters. The UK is an elegant design made with top-shelf materials, at a size that is (for me) far more useful than the Urban. I'd hate to see you write it off over what is (to me) a non-issue. Best wishes in your quest for the ultimate pocket knife
.

I understand what you are saying mwebb. I was kind of bummed when I discovered this about the UKPK, as I was set to buy all 3 versions of it (FG leaf, FG drop, OR leaf). But since it is such an expensive knife for me, that little quirk will always bug me. It will take away from my enjoyment of the knife. Sounds dumb, I know... but I can't help it lol
I actually prefer blades under 3"... and the Urban fits that bill perfectly. Sucks that it is pretty much the same price as the UKPK, when it is smaller, and made with VG-10 as opposed to s30V. Who knows... I might not even like how the Urban feels in hand.

Man you have to stop apologizing lol You are doing me a big favour by taking these pics.
Looks like the Urban leaf blade's tip is still nicely hidden which is a big plus.... AND it also appears that the drop point UKPK blade tip rides lower between the scales than it's leaf blade counterpart. That's exciting!! Maybe I can still get a UKPK after all! :D
