Is it too early to ask about the 2010 forum knife?

Not to jump the gun, but I was looking back on some old threads, like the 2010 PB&J knife, et cetera and was wondering when the yearly forum knives come around. This coming year will hopefully be my first of many forum knives to come.

There's no rules and no reason to assume there will be one in 2010. If there is one, a Manix 2 variation seems like a natural.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I like the idea of a Manix forum knive, but please don't paint/etch a silly spiderweb on the blade. I also like the idea of a UKPK (FRN or G10) or a Delica. Forum knives should be affordable, as the Native was.

true, there is no guarantee that there will be one, but I sure hope there is. :)

Of course its not too soon. Now that we know there is plenty of demand it shouldn't be too hard to convince the :spyder: crew to make one this year. Assuming they have the time. Why not a FFG FRN UKPK? How's that for acronyms? It would be super affordable and hopefully everyone can get one this time.

I've gotta say I love that idea. Unobtrusively engrave "Spyderco Forum Knife" on the blade. Then given it a unique color. I wouldn't mind having them numbered either.

I like the Manix 2 idea with a web on the handle somehow, not on the blade.

If there is one I just hope its distributed in a way to ensure those forum members that want one can get one with out forking out 3X the cost which is why I do not have the 2009 native.

How about a Special Edition high contrast blue handle?

I'd like to see another bug inlaid into the handle like the Forum Military. That was uber cool (wish I had one :( ).
Manix 2 already has a sprint run scheduled for this year. Maybe our orange Dodo? With a glow in the dark bug? Yeah, I'd like that ...A LOT!

sal i dont really care what you pick as a forum knife. i am sure it will be great. i trust your judgment. my only request is this: please limit one or two or even three i guess tops per person. we all know who did what and i wont rehash it but its not fair, how many of us (myslef included) got the forum for 3 or 4 times more? i am part of the group, we all are. i have only been here a few months but i feel like i am one of you. i am not paul or doc or other long timers who been here for years but i enjoy being here and consider myslef a spyderco.com forum member. i learned my lesson. i wont wait days to order. i will do it asap kristi posts it but still i think some way of blocking multi purchases it not asking too much. believe me THEY WILL SELL. 8 hours is not just cause people bought like a dozen at a time, people wanted them! a forum spydie is unique, very unique. so even if you allow multiples after, lets say, 72 hours to give us a chance and dealers to sit and swim for a few days i am sure a couple days later they will still be gone. thank you sal

Maybe the sales of the knife should go according to a lo system where each active member gets their chance before anyone else.

I do like the idea of Forum members each having a chance at one. So I'm guessing we've really got to be on the ball to order one, huh? Any warning? Maybe a 2 week count down? Geez I hope a day doesn't go by that I don't check the forum! At the moment, I'm reading it way to much.

I'd like to see a small gentlemen's folder. Your Cat and Chicago line are nice little knives. A CF handle, a wire clip and a unique blade steel would be nice. I wasn't fond of the skeleton blade, but a unique emblem or colored CF scale (maybe multi-color weave - Red?) would be fun. Or a titanium scale.

The 2009 forum knife sold out within a few hours, IIRC. Maybe a day. TazKristi or maybe Sal commented that the system didn't work and wasn't fair, so I suspect we'll see something different if there is another forum knife this year.

We knew the forum knife was coming months before it went on sale and Kristi gave a couple weeks notice of the time and date that the forum knife went on sale. I doubt we'll have a repeat of the fiasco that we saw with the 2009 knife as the demand was unprecedented, but now Spyderco knows at least one way not to do it! ;)

So to answer your question pointedly; yes, they do give you warning that the knife is coming.

I'd like to see an orange M4 Dodo myself. Sold the same way as previously, these are special, limited items; it's up to the buyer to pay attention and get one (or a few) if they want one.

Personally I think it's too early to ask... (this isn't a 'flame')

sometimes I feel sorry for Sal and his team with everything expected of them. They put out a top quality product that suits our tastes in a world of 'beige'. He invites us into his life and we pay him back by expecting MORE MORE MORE!!!!

WE got the H1 Spyderhawk ... that's more than enough for me!
