Hey everyone,
I made a video comparing my new Salt 1 to my EDC Delica 4. The things I point out are probably not news to most of you Spydie experts, but it might be some good knife porn anyway. Here's the video: http://www.geartalkwithjasonklass.com/2 ... eview.html

Great video, Jason. It's funny, my first Spyderco was a Salt 1 PE. Now I'm waiting for a Delica 4. :)
I completely agree with your opinion on the rivet construction. I can detect a little side to side play on my Salt 1 right now, but it's not enough for me to send it in for repair.
I also am not a big fan of the clip on the Salt 1. The fact that it is titanium is cool, but the clip doesn't ride deep with jeans or other thicker pant materials. That's a bit of a problem for its EDC value since you don't want to advertise to everyone that you have a knife in your pocket.
Additionally, you might want to take a look at the thread "H1 Scratching." H1 holds a decent edge at first but I find that through repeated use it actually gets tougher. The cost of the work-hardened edge is that the sides of the blade show a lot of scratches. I don't see that as a negative though. I like my knives to look like they're workers.
I think I'll keep my Salt 1 for fishing and when I go to the beach. For regular EDC, I think I'll use my Delica 4.

I have about the same feelings as you. Have you tried loosening the clip to make it fit in the pocket better? Also, if you have some play in the blade, I would take it to Spyderco immediately. If you let it go too long, they might blame it on your usage. But really, it's a manufacturer's defect. We pulled several other Salt 1s out of the boxes and they didn't have the play mine did. If I were you, I'd try to get a replacement a.s.a.p.D1omedes wrote:Great video, Jason. It's funny, my first Spyderco was a Salt 1 PE. Now I'm waiting for a Delica 4. :)

Nice video :) I also have both a Salt I SE and a Delica 4 (PE ZDP-189), and I must say that I love my Delica more.
-slightly larger handle
-bi-directional texturing on the FRN is more comfortable
-the steel liners add a little more balance and strength
-more versatile clip (and less obtrusive)
-screw construction
However, there are some things I definitely LOVE about my Salt:
-H1 steel!
-really nasty Spyderedge that just cuts through anything
-slightly larger Spyderhole makes for easier opening
-nearly maintenance free
At this moment I'm considering buying a full Spyderedge Delica 4. However, if the Salt I was to be 'upgraded' to the Delica 4 design (liners, bi-directional FRN, less obtrusive clip, adjustable pivot or even full screw-together construction), I would promptly buy a bright yellow full Spyderedge 'D4-design' Salt I :D
