Project #3 is about done & has a little Halloween flavor. I thought I'd share some photos. I did a scale replacement on my Black Raven. It's my favorite Byrd model tied with the Wings slipit. What do ya think?

Very nice! It really catches the eye with the strong contrast between orange and black, and I think the handle shaping looks like quality work.

That looks awesome araneae. How long did it take you to do the handles? They look really nice.
Sometimes you gotta kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight.

There are several knifemaker supply places on the web. Jantz, Midwest Knifemakers, Halpern Ti also sells G-10.

Hard to say. I did a little here and there when I had a spare minute. Plus as its frosty at my garage workbench now, it makes the time spent there less enjoyable. I would guess several hours (maybe 3) over the last week.

Thanks for the compliments.

Hey, Buddy! My thoughts exactly! Except that little thing, that I would give a plus Anso style "etching" on the G10. Great mod of yours, congrat! ;) (Good thought anyway to take pictures in front of green leaves, because my two favorite colors are orange and green. :cool :)

Very nice, Nick. What is the hardest part about working with G10? Special tools needed?

Wear more than a dust mask because G10 dust is toxic.

The hardest thing is patience and double checking everything as you go. Getting the holes in exactly the right place is tricky too. I made a set of scales that came out just a hair too small. Ended up being several hours of work with no usable product. :( Oh well it was practice.

The tools I used include: hack saw, coping saw, vise, clamps, hand drill, dremel tool with lots of assorted bits, sanding drums and wheels, files, sand paper in various grades, a steady hand, shop vac, respirator & safety glasses. As mentioned the G-10 dust is nasty and gets everywhere, I try to use the shop vac to minimize floating dust. A drill press would be very handy, but I don't have one at this time.
