Amen brother!! I've never seen a knife that is as purely designed with function over flashy looks and cool features. The folks complaining about it should carry one every day for a year and then come back and try to find something wrong with it. I honestly never have pinched my hand with the lock, I don't see how you can. I pray that Sal leaves the same handle to blade ratio. The huge handle is a blessing for guys like me with bigger hands, it actually feels like you are holding a knife, not cramped up. For folks complaining about pocketability, half the time I can't tell I have it in there. It's slim and weighs next to nothing. Try carrying around another knife that size, it will feel like you got a brick in your pocket.noddy wrote:I think the reason that the Para is my favourite Spyderco knife is because of its roughness, slightly brutal awkwardness and its uncompromising sense of self.
In fact, the knife is neither rough nor brutal, in in any other way incomplete - but it seems to suggest a certain companionship in strife which I really appreciate. It feels lke it is sharing in something demanding, and really hasn't quite got time for niceties :)
Can you arrange to extract and bottle that quality of the Para, Sal?

Looking at a para picture and remembering when I had one myself.... I love the grind, shape, lock, clip, G10.. All I can say is change the G10 color and maybe different steel? But to me the Para is already perfect :)
An urban camo (like I saw someone made in the picture gallery) with a black blade would be pretty nifty

One thing I'd like to see changed is the front choil - it could be a little larger radius as now it feels too tight and I don't have fat fingers. Lava and Khukuri are much better in this regard. Otherwise I like the compression lock, blade shape, and blade length so there's not too much to nag about as it is. Good piece of kit!
I was a Benchmade guy for years, but the Para is probably my favorite mid-level production folder ever. That being said, I'd like to see:
1) slightly fuller/beefier liners
2) ease the contour on the bottom of the handle
3) 3.25" blade in same handle size
4) slightly lower riding clip
5) some cool sprint runs with exotic steels (S90V, CPM-M4, S35VN, etc.)
Whatever you do, PLEASE don't change it too much and definitely keep the compression lock! It's still the best working folder today just the way it is!

I think I'm late to the game, the Para2 is probably finalized by now.
I think this would be a nice knife if the pivot section could be shortened up. There is about a half inch of handle that I don't use. It has a nice feel when I grab from behind the pivot to the enlarged section at the end, but there is a lot of space between where my pointer finger sits and where the blade starts that seems unusable.
It looks like there is a lot of excess steel between the pivot point and where the blade starts. It seems like approximately 3/8" could be removed from this section, which would bring the edge of the blade closer to the grip. After that, it seems you could remove quite a bit of handle on the tip end when closed.
Other changes that would be nice is a full lined scales (I think you have to do this to use your 4 way clip already), making the scales slightly thinner, and adding a back spacer so that it isn't so rough on my hands.
While I'm on wishful thinking, I think it would be nice if we could get the grip on the compression lock wider to fill some of the empty space, which might make the lock a little more sturdy. (Not that it needs it.) This might be impossible to do in production.

Personally,
I'm hoping to see the following 3 knives come to fruition:
1) Black or Orange G-10 Para - S90V FFG PE
2) Black or Orange G-10 Native - S90V FFG PE
3) Orange G-10 Catcherman - H-1 PE

Even though I don't see the need myself for a 4 way clip it is one of the only things I would add to this near perfect design. I stress ADD instead of CHANGE because this is a **** near perfect design. I only own a D2 Para but it is my current EDC until I get an
S30V. As far as ditching the compression lock...NOOOOO!!!
I would put a compression lock on any liner lock model Spyderco makes. Please, a compression lock on a Millie. If that happened I would have a drawer full of those. Next to a back lock the compression is my favorite. I would say 1 and 1A if I were to rate them.
Next to the 4 way clip maybe add some new colors. Urban camo PLEASE!!! I wouldn't mind seeing full liners either just to feel the difference the added weight makes but the partial liners are great as is. And again like I posted before in another thread, maybe a sprint run with an H1 blade.

I did some modification to my D2 Para that may help in showing what I personally would like to see in a second para model.
Steve rice made a tip up low rider titanium clip for me, it's anodized a bronze color, I think it looks nice with the foliage green handles. After that was installed, I sanded down the end bump for an easier place to rest my pinky when not using the small choil. I'll put pictures up later but to me this is close to the perfect paramilitary

This makes me laugh. :Dsal wrote: Some of our concepts are "out there" and will require sneaking up on. ...

I just know the 'newer' Para or 'Para 2' is going to be freakin' awesome.
Thanks for even considering keeping us in the loop Sal. :)
