Great score for the winning bidder that paid what he/she was comfortable with for there treasure. I guess it all depends on how bad you want it. I think it's a great compliment to Spyderco that people would spend that kind of money on there products. I myself have paid good money for Spyderco knives that I wanted and were hard to find. If I had the extra money I know I'd be forking out good coin to get some of those other hard to find Spyderco knives out there. Just my thought,

Great deal for the seller. That's ~$100 over current high-end market price, IMO.

I would have to agree, great deal for the seller as well. I guess as long as both parties are happy than life is good for all.

I bought mine for $140 free shipping nib 3 months ago. But i would have paid that. Some people "need" certain models. That must have been one

Right now, I could get one NIB for about €149 (~US$215). That's a reasonable price over here since the original price was €162 (an ordinary S30V costs €190 nowadays!!), it is disontinued and quite a rare find by now.

Don't know what tax you must pay for knives sent to you from Germany, but maybe it will still be worthwile if you want one REAL bad, even plus shipping...? PM me if interested in me helping you to get in contact with the german seller (it's not me though ;) ).

I bought mine new for about $118 the first day my dealer got them and have used mine a lot ever since. It is just a great knife. It is kind of funny how they were the same price as the S30V model when new and now they fetch a fortune. CPM D2 really is some excellent stuff, mine tested out at 62 RC and I much prefer it to S30V.

Timing is everything. The D2 Paras were closed out at around $100 - they seem to go for 130-140% of that now when people stay on their meds.

There is a big difference in price from full size and para military. Full size D2 military goes for over twice as much as para.

And, I don't believe the C36 D2 was ever closed out by Spyderco.

Why the market didn't snap up the C81 version, and how it managed to need to be closed out at that price, is an utter mystery to me. It's a fabulous knife in every respect, probably the very best Para ever offered.

I remember when the Military and Para first came out. I wanted to buy a S30V Para really bad but the D2 version was around $40 cheaper so I bought it not even knowing what I was getting. I carried it for a while and then moved on to other knives, so I sold it. About 5 months ago I was hankering for another and went to my dealer's site. He was selling them off for $100, brand new. I couldn't pass that up so I bought one. I was going to buy another when I got paid next but two weeks later he had put the price back up to normal so I never did. He still has them for $129, if anyone wants one pm me and I'll show you where to go. I still want a S30V version and will likely buy one when I'm semi-employed again. :)
