Made in Japan? Seki-City Japan?

#1

Post by Gadget Guy »

I'm new to the forum here, but not new to buying Spyderco's. I have been buying Spyderco's for years and I have several models. I noticed that some of my newer models are simply marked "Japan" and not "Seki-City Japan" like I'm used to. Are the new knives no longer made in Seki-City?

I did a search and couldn't find the answer, so sorry in advance if I missed it. :o

Are you sure you're talking about NEWER models or NEW to you models? All my older models that i've bought recently just say japan. The newer ones say Seki City Japan. My newest knives made in japan are the spyderhawks and they say seki city. My Kris and massad ayoob both say japan no seki city.

I do believe all the Japan Made spydies are still Seki-city. They just changed it to Japan for the sake of cleaning up things.

I just received my Khukuri and it is simply marked "Japan". I guess it doesn't really matter, but I was just curious. ;)

In another thread someone said that these are two different Japanese manufacturers. Can't verify it myself.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I think that's it.

I have old ones and new ones marked just Japan and also Seki-City Japan.

Spyderco has at least 3 different makers in Seki City. One of them requested that their knives be marked simply Japan; no Seki City.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

This question was answered before by Sal. I believe he said that this particular Seki City based maker chose to simply stamp Japan.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Interesting...I'm curious as to why. Does it cost less to just stamp 'Japan' perhaps? Or maybe they're planning on relocating their factory to a city with a name like Higashiōsaka, Kitakyūshū, or Higashihiroshima.

Nothing has changed. Moki, one of Japan's finest makers and the company responsible for the C27 Jess Horn and a number of other Spydercos, does not mark their knives Seki, or Seki Ciity.
