Just curious. I believe the Tasman uses the older Delica 2 or 3 FRN handle. Do you think its possible to transfer a Tasman blade to a newer delica 4 FRN handle?
I love the tasman, but hate how it uses the rivets. Just wondering if anyone has attempted or has any insight.
thanks in advance!

Probably not. For a few reasons.
IIRC the D4 blade is thicker than the Tasman. And as such has a thicker lockbar, you couldn't just do a straight swap.
Also, the D4 handle may or may not accommodate the Tasman blade curve.
What you could do is send it to a semi/custom maker and have them replace the rivets with threaded hardware and new scales.

It sounds like a nightmare to me *if* it could even be done. If you could do it, you could likely buy 3 or 4 tasmans for the same price and just wait for them to develop play.
My biggest gripe with the Tasman is I prefer the fish scale or bi-directional FRN better. It's a rather strong knife being that it's the choice of many electricians and Alaskan's who don't pull their punches when it comes to abuse. Most of them are still running very strong with teeth missing. You can't take it apart but I would think *most* gunk you could get out with a soap bath, grease and compressed air.
If you want a worker that's up for disassemble the Crossbill is a bit larger with G10 and screws. The Superhawk is the same size with many different/better features for about 4-5 times as much. I'm guessing the older G10 Harpy is screwed construction (but don't quote me on that one) which is still sold in the Japanese market.
Pinned construction isn't perfect but there is some peace of mind knowing it is how it is. Buy spares and treat them like tools because for that role they rock. :)
Goodluck.

I wouldnt do it just because it would take away the main purpose of the salt..if you put it in a different handle that has other parts.. (delica 4 handle) has different lock bars, screws, liners and such that WILL rust if used in gunk, salt, or alot of water..anyways I'd stay away from doin that,
just my .02 :) good luck!

First hurdle would be the size of the pivot hole in the Tasman's blade. No way to tell whether it's smaller, larger, or the same without taking the Tasman apart. If smaller, drilling it out could overcome that obstacle. The second, and probably insurmountable hurdle would be is the lock. The lockbars are obviously quite different in length, so you'd have to use the Delica lockbar with the Tasman blade. Eyeballing them, the Tasman's lock notch seems longer to me. Don't have an accurate way to measure them, so I can't say for sure, but I really doubt it would work unless you were prepared and equipped to make a new lockbar.
You might want to ask Steve Rice (STR) what he thinks. He's torn at least a couple Tasmans apart to rebuild with aluminum or titanium handles, so he might have a better idea of what your chances of success would be.
