Have to share my excitement 2 Grails Down!

#1

Post by StangBang »

Hello my fellow forumites!

Well I have finally found 2 of my elusive grail knives after looking for quite a while :D I had always had difficulty finding the funds at the right time when I saw these available and the stars lined up within 1 week for both of these guys

I finally got my hands on both the PE and SE Blue Dodo's!!! Thanks to a couple guys on here for helping me in my search! Ken and Mike your both A+ Gents for helping me out!!!!

First impression on handling these knives was that they are very ergonomic. They simply fit your hand like a glove! My second Spyderco I ever purchased was the SS Poliwog, for its original design and its use of a nice finger choil, cutouts in the SS and very ergonomic handles. I also loved the look of the BBL. The dodo is a fine knife indeed and the blade shape is great for opening packages and slicing into things. I have been carrying them both relentlessly so far and just can't stay away from them!

Anyways I took some pictures of my new pets and thought I would share them with you guys! Really looking forward to your comments!

nice finds! I like the look and feel of the Dodo and consider the BBL very cool. I don't own one but have it on the list of ones I'd definitely like to have.

Congrats on your finds. It's a nice feeling when you acquire a grail knife, isn't it? By the way, is that pic above (with the oranges) a subtle hint to Spyderco? (orange + Dodo) :)

i dont get it? oranges and spyderco?

anyway nice pics and nice knives. but for me (and i seem to be the only one) i just don't like that handle and couldn't bring myself to get them even know from what i have learned they are among the top fav's for ALOT of people. i am digging the colors and blade shape but would prefer a slightly less ostentatious handle shape. but i am still glad you found your grail! im working on mine as we speak but it always falls short as i find new offers either the condition it is in or the price or the wear and tear from previous owner

I don't think they will reproduce no matter how you mount them. :(

Congrats on the purchase. It's awesome to finally get a hold of a knife you've been salivating over and absolutely love it. I feel the same with my UKPK (courtesy of kbuzbee ;) ).

How do you like the ball-bearing lock? I've heard mixed things about it. Have you EDC'ed any of them yet?

I think the Dodo has a wicked blade design. I also love the bright blue G10. Enjoy em. :)

Congrats on the score! Oh, and kudos to you for carrying and using them. I've got 3 of the PE and they are suffering away as safe queens. I break out my one user on Christmas for blister packs and the like. Other than that, all 3 stay locked away :(

Delica and Endura are great knives! They're the low priced crack samples that'll get you hooked on spyderco! Feed the need!

Both of mine look closest to the second one from the right. I will get some pics up when I have the time :)

To be honest I didn't know if I would carry them, but it's just too great of a knife not to use! Plus I don't think I will ever sell them (unless extenuating circumstances arise) so I might as well enjoy them and take good care of them so I can both use and admire them!

I like it on this knife and the poliwog. I think for a hard use knife maybe a CBBL would work best on the dodo though. But for edc and normal use the BBL is fine :) I too love the blade design and contours of the handles as well as the color!

I found the dodo 69 pic very offensive. But really great angle funny how they fit like that. If only knife reproduction was as easy as to have a PE and SE mounted on one another. Who knows what knife creations would spawn if that were the key. I know i'd have a few superspyderhawks Running around.

If you're worried about use affecting the value I would just use the SE model. I have noticed that as long as there isn't any major damage the SE models all sell for similar price; used, new and NIB.

I'd keep the PE as a collector since use does seem to affect the value of that one. But I do understand the feeling, I have a hard time using some of my collector Spydercos. Not necessarily worried about the expense, but the future availability.
