Dear Pachucko and others:
I couldn't get into the referenced site either, but the knife in question is an experimental Ronin that Mike Snody had done with Jim Piorek's "Riggercoat" handle treatment. Here is a link to a picture of the same concept that was posted on Bladeforums:

I haven't played with one of these yet, but Mike Snody has assured me that one will come my way soon. Once it does, I'll post my thoughts on it.
Stay safe,
mike j

I love the Ronin's design. Either this or a La Griffe is probably my next fixed blade. I'd read in this month's Tactical Knives that the steel for the Ronin was 440V, which seemed a bad choice considering the design. Glad to see that the knife is coming in BG-42 and VG-10 versions, respectively.
Nice work.

Just stopped at the blade show. The second day, all of Mike Snody knives were sold out. tried his table a couple of times and he still was not there. Stopped by one last time and lo and beholdhe was there, told him I trained with Mike Janich in MBC 1 to 4 and I had a earlier version of the Ronin. He said he kept a couple of knives aside for people like us and I got one of the Bladeriggger Ronins in black. If you thought the original felt great in the hand, the bladerigger coat is even better.
Satori, I'm envious--TWO Ronin for you, while some of us have none!
Good haul. If you make it back this way for more MBC play, bring the newer one with ya, eh? I don't know what 'bladerigger' means, but if you say it's good I'd like to see it.
Do either of you (or any other forumites who already have one) carry your Ronin as a neck knife, or do you prefer other carry options? Just wondering.
Good training to you,
Vince

As far as carrying the Ronin, I am still working out the options. Neck carry is one option (untucked shirt), static cord around the belt and the knife stuffed into the pocket or waist band is another (shirt tucked in). Rigger coated or carbon fiber both Ronins rock. Eric Glesser said the Janich/Spyderco Ronin was close to production.
Bladerigger is the name of a vinyl coating that www.bladerigger.com uses (see previous postings to see a picture. I got one in a uniform black material. It is a great coating and handle material. I also met Sal at the show. He showed me the prototype ROnin and it looks great. He also showed me a prototype of the Folding Ronin made in plastic. This is the perfect knife! But he said he was having a hard time getting someone to manufacture it. Usually I carry in neck knife carry when riding my bike and tucked in belt when in warm weather and walking.

Dear Satori:
Congrats on Ronin #2! I'm glad Mike took good care of you at Blade. He recently sent me two of the Riggercoated Ronins to play with. Although I like the tackiness of the handle grip, I'm less pleased with the coated sheath. One of the original design goals of the knife was to have a neck sheath that would lay flat and not spin. I am really pleased with the channeled design that Mike and I worked out and would like to see all Ronins riding in that style of sheath.
Mike Snody also mentioned to me that the Riggercoat process adds a bit to the cost of the knife and that he may not be doing them in the future. If that's the case, you've got a real collector's item.
As for Mr. Skin's question regarding delivery of the production Ronins, I'm still hearing a June/July delivery to Colorado. Once they arrive, I will work with Spyderco to come up with a production sheath design. When that is settled and there are enough of those made, they should start to sell them. I'll keep you posted as I learn more.
Stay safe,

Mike;
I noticed that the sheath spun. But then I tried to carry like most of Bladeriggers carries with the static cord looped on the belt and sheath tucked in pants. It works well, but negates neck carry.
I always wanted ask you about choice of chisel grind over double grind of the production knife. Does one have a advantage over the other?
