Praise for Spyderco
Well, I'm a long time lurker first time poster and I thought I should get involved somehow and meet you guys. I've read this forum for about a year now on and off and you all seem like a great group of stand-up people.
My first spydie was a Delica FRN about 5 years ago - I remember not thinking much about it when I saw it but the moment I handled it I wanted it. I usually EDC a blade but this was my first folder that was over $50 and I was instantly impressed at the much higher class of quality and function. I had to have another one. I became fascinated with high end steel and spent weeks researching and reading up about it.
I started reading up on Spyderco and their products and ended up buying a Para Military plain edge. I fell in love with it when it came and it became my new EDC blade. Right after this I bought a Sharpmaker and was blown away at how easy it was to use and liked the video and everything. I could tell from my third Spyderco product that this was a unique company - one of a dying breed of companies that put pride in their work and back up their work.
After that I bought a Manix (I remember waffling back and forth between the Manix and the Yojimbo and ended up deciding on the Manix... now I can't get a Yojimbo and I want one sooo bad. I love my Manix though.). I think it was at this point where the addiction started and I realized that I would be buying spydies for the rest of my life. I started getting the "spydereye" where I could instantly identify a Spyderco knife in someone else's pocket and I started talking to people about them.
So, now I have another Delica - plain edge with SS handle for carry in dress clothes, an Endura 4 FRN VG-10 plain edge, a Stretch FRN VG-10 (which I love) and a Native FRN S30V plain edge. I'm partial to plain edges I guess. Oh and how could I forget my millie - a Military S30V plain edge G-10. That's one killer knife.
Many thanks to Mr. Glesser and Spyderco for their wonderful products and high standards. You have a customer and a fan for life.

Nice to meet you! Spyderco knives are my favorite too. I'm easy to spot with the spydereye since I wear a spyderco hat almost everyday.
I've owned many knives as a relatively new knife nut thanks to all the money I saved by quitting smoking. Hinderer xm-18's, Anso 67, Dozier folding hunter, Large and small micarta classic sebenza's, Large and small sebenzas, all kind of benchmades, old school slip joints. I've sought out knives of all kinds and Spyderco is my favorite by a land-slide.

:) thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I need to get me one of those Spyderco hats - I'll check around and pick one up. This forum might be bad for my habit... I keep looking at what knives everyone else is buying and then I want them too. Payday is Monday and after that Caly3 ZDP thread I think I know what I'm buying next...
Welcome and I think you will be extremely pleased when you get your Caly3 ZDP.

Another welcome. You, sir, are already in over your head. Might as well give in and not fight it. Its almost uncontrollable...buy, buy and buy some more - after all, they're not just knives for you - you are helping the economy!805surf wrote: :) This forum might be bad for my habit... The only thing that I'm worried about with the Caly ZDP is the staining. I am super obsessive about a clean blade and it might bug me. However, I could see doing the patina thing which is what I am going to try. I will post pics once I have it done. I'm ordering it on Monday and they usually come in 2 days and I'm going to disassemble it and stain the blade the day it comes. I'm just too curious about the feel and edge retention of ZDP and I love how the Caly looks.
It's true, I might as well give in. :) Plus, the knives will be around and in good order for my kids and probably their kids. They seem just that well built.
Edit: I'm thinking of polishing the blade before staining it. Thoughts?
