How's yours holding up to minor chopping duties Clovisc? Is that heat-treatment still holding strong against chips/burrs? I saw your initial review and it was very helpful.
sorry for the delayed response, Blerv.
i've only chopped branches -- nothing too intense -- but it works great. i've done a decent bit of batoning with my rock salt -- i've been hugely impressed by how well it works... even on thick, heavy, dense wood. (much, much better than the aqua salt... or even my old BM fecas offsider).
i'd have no reservation whatsoever relying on the rock salt for normal camp knife duties, and the handful of batoning tasks you'd likely expect to encounter. I HAVE HAD NO CHIPPING OR ROLLING OF THE EDGE!!! it would be excellent in a survival situation, as well. if i expected to do a lot of chopping, however, i'd get a good axe... or a hatchet, if i wanted to travel light. even a machete -- like a panga (lupanga in zambia) or khukri style blade. in my experience (especially in zambia), the panga style blade is where it's at... even for small trees. kinda awkward to carry, though... :D
no worries about the rock salt -- it's built to perform, and to last. it only gets better, the more you use it. used it today to clean a good-sized sea-run dolly varden. :D
