I buy and sell constantly. I thought I would regret selling my Lava recently, but I haven't given it a second thought since then. I don't ever keep a knife I'm not going to use. Right now my primary EDC is an Emerson, I really like it and I have some Spydies sitting in my sock drawer, so we'll give it a few more weeks and if they aren't being used they will be going to homes that will use them. Knives are just knives, fun to try out and buy, but I don't have any attachment to them.
Those who choose to live a life without risks, arrive safely at death's door.
During last three years I sold little over 20 knives. Few of them I bought with intend to sell, most of them I sold because I didn't like them anymore. The only knife I regret selling is my user R2. By the way now is not a good time to sell anything

If you'll get more enjoyment out of your car than your knives...then that's that!
Draw a line on a piece of paper with the car at one end and the knives at the other, then mark a point on that line where your most enjoyment comes from. Or draw up a list of what models you're prepared to part with.
P.S.
Try not to get too attached to "material things". Cars get wrecked and stolen, knives get lost etc. To be heartbroken over the loss of something so common as a possession is a truly sad situation.
We'll still talk with you whether you've got 0 knives or 100!!! :)

I buy and sell a lot too-all knives, not just spydercos. I'm not really a collector, though, I do exactly as you say-try them out and sell em off again if they don't make the cut. I'm also in college, which means money really is always tight, but I'm basically a practical person and don't like to have excess things laying around that don't get used.
The great thing I've found about Spydercos is that they very rarely lose value, and obviously can gain value-even if they have a bit of use. I don't buy them as a collection or as an investment, but if I can break even every time I sell a Spyderco, I might as well buy them in order to get that much closer to the ultimate EDC knife.

have no worries about that, it only has 16K miles on it but alot of those miles were either near redline or above 100mph

99 cobra vert, i got a quote for a vortech, the guy said later on if it isnt enough i can get an intercooler for it to jump uo the HP click and pasted from a different threadPlainEdge wrote: What year is your cobra? 16 k miles on it :D . it has dyno'd at the rear wheels 300 torque and 300 hp (around 350 at the engine) i ran a 12.9 second quarter mile in it and usually traps around 103-105 mph.
mods: catted magnaflow x pipe and mufflers, cold air intake, full length sub frame connectors, 5.0 shifter, iridium plugs, nitto drag radials, edit: forgot the 4.30 gears in the rear end :)
cosmetic mods: some chrome accents inside including "EJECT" cigarette llighter, full sound system with boston sub and speakers and a big snake in the front replacing the pony emblem.

Paul, when you decided to sell there will be a line at your door like the one at the spyderco's 2nd sale :pThe Deacon wrote:Lord knows I have way "too many". The closest I've come so far is cutting back considerably on my acquisitions.
my wife used to have on of those, you are so low to the ground that it feels like you are flying when in reality you are doing 60mph. lots of fun in the twistys too.CombatGrappler wrote: The Miata I've been wanting....that'll just have to wait.![]()

About 30 years ago I sold a vintage S&W Model 10 with an absolutely perfect trigger pull. It was carried and used a lot. I sold it for more than I bought it for to fund the purchase of another gun that I also sold. Wish I had them both now.
I have never sold a knife. If and when I have to do so, I will. But for now, if I buy it I keep it. I am a collector. I am an addict. I admit it.

Sold Spydercos
I have sold, traded several Spyderos and other brands of knives over the last 41 years of collecting knives. I currently have several up for sale/trade. The only regrets I have is selling a medium sized collection of Case knives made in the 70's off about 12 years ago.

I've never sold off any of my knives. I don't think I could really sell off one of my Spyderco's because I would regret it the moment I put it up for sale. Don't plan on selling unless I desperately need money, which I pray never happens.

A classic example of me and getting rid of knives. I use new knife where I didn't the Lum, so it's more practical but knowing that hasn't stopped me from regretting getting rid of that blue Lum. Likewise the Ti/PE ATR I got rid of, and some other choice knives.i hear ya Joe but i am keeping ones that were gifted to me or grails that i collected (your blue lum comes to mind. thanks again!
I guess when it comes down to eating and paying bills, or having a great collection of knives it's not really a choice. I wouldn't get rid of them for anything less though.

I have never sold any of my Spydies. I have however traded one of my Spydies for a different Spydie which I did not have. And the only reason I traded it was because I had a duplicate.

nope just the shade of a tree, i saved the burnouts for the track, tires are too **** expensive to be wasting them :) and the drag radials i had on would stick as soon as they got heated up. in rain it was a different story all togehter. i would start hydroplaning at 50mph so i finally got rid of them.RIOT wrote:Tony, are those all burn outs in your street ? or donuts ? the street is black off to the left :D

I reallly need some drag radials... My GT is at 302 to the ground with 300 tq. I just put GT500 Rims and tires on em 18x9.5 with 285/40's on the back. But still being a street radial I am running terrible times at the track since I'm spinning all over the place!!!! 14.3 @ 100.2tonydahose wrote:nope just the shade of a tree, i saved the burnouts for the track, tires are too **** expensive to be wasting them :) and the drag radials i had on would stick as soon as they got heated up. in rain it was a different story all togehter. i would start hydroplaning at 50mph so i finally got rid of them.

Vortech is an awesome choice! I was looking into either a Pro-charger or Roush R2300 for myself, but the funds won't come for another 2 years at least!
I really like your 99 vert! It looks exceptionally clean! It seems like the 99 and 01 Cobras don't get much love at all thanks to the 03 04 Termies

Good luck with the selling off of your Spydies, and defnitely let us get a glimpse of that shiny centrifugal on its way

Tony,
I had to sign in and post for this one. :) Needed a break from studying anyway.
Yeah I'll take the blame. :D
Seriously though, I'm a gear head also, and I love cars. I would sell off knives in a heart beat to go fast. I think you know the saying....." it's better than $#* ". I've driven a car (my dad's) that will put you back in the seat hard. She does 9.40's and lifts the front tires about 14". Heck yes I would sell some of my knives!!!!
On a more 'knife' note, I have owned about 130 different knives. I currently own about 6 Spyderco's and maybe 6 slippies (Case, Queen, etc) and about 5 SAK's.
When I start to get close to the 20 mark I feel guilty. I think, dang I could do a lot with this money somewhere else. Especially when I look at my knives as tools; beautiful tools but tools none the less. I don't feel guilty because I'm shafting my family but because I just know how many other things I can spend that money on and it tugs at me because I know I cannot use 20 knives up in my lifetime. Heck every single knife I currently own would probably last me the rest of my life (and I mean just one of them).
I've only regretted selling two knives to this date. My Emerson CQC-10, and my Benchmade 732 Ares. Yeah I know they are not Spydies but I really liked them. If I can find an Ares again I'll buy it. The CQC-10's are still around so I'm not worried about them.
Long story short. I've ownd about 85 Spydies, and about 50 other brands. I've sold them all off with the exception of about 6 Spydies and 10 slippies.
There's a flip side to this coin. I got bored with Muscle cars a while back. I used to have a 1972 Monte Carlo and a 1964 Impala. Both were were awesome, the Monte was 1970 Chevelle Ghost Gray and was a major sleeper. The Impala was pearl color and had magenta flames on it. The Monte was a 13 second car. I liked it but I just didn't feel like always putting it up for the winter and getting it back out in the spring, and washing and waxing it within an inch of it's life etc. I do like wrenching on engines on a stand in the garage however. :)
So......choose wisely my friend.

If your anything like me, a knife (yes even a "Grail") will never put as big of a smile on your face as stabbing the gas... and pinning your head to the back of the seat. I love knives, but they can not ever be as fun as going FAST.
OK, have I sold Spydies and do I regret it?
Yes I have sold a LOT of them, in fact I only have about 10 left. They onky ones I miss are my Lil Temp family... SE S30V, PE S30V, and a PE 440V Trailing point.
Man I miss that trailing point ....
Anyways, sell sell sell... IMHO
Knives are fun, BUT not THAT fun. YMMV

Hey Tony
I have sold a wicked amount of knives in the last two years. Possibly about a hundred, and given away many as well. (20-30)
No regrets ever, because really they are only knives. If I don't carry it I get rid of it. It's as simple as that. Right now I'm only collecting very high end and getting on maker's lists who I respect and who's work speaks to me.
If you don't use em get rid of them. Knife in the drawer really is not the purpose of a knife eh. Plus you would look bitchin driving the Cobra :D .

After seeing a quote here somewhere that leaving a Spydie in the box is like letting them die, (that and needing money for other investments), I have slowly started to liquidate my Spyderco collection. All that remains now are the ones that I not only love, but also can bear to use hard. It means I no longer have any "rare" Spydies in my collection, but I am now happier because I have less unloved Spydies... and I am certain those that I did sell have gone to other collectors who will appreciate them as much or more than I did.

I have bought and sold a ton of Spydercos. I don't regret any of it! I feel guilty if I have too many knives, because I can't possibly use all of them.
I tend to accumulate for a while, and then sell a bunch, repeat...
I finance new knives by selling old ones, so I only keep the best of the best.
So I am accumulating more knives over the years, but not TOO many. :D
