For all the moaning and groaning that so many people were doing after missing out on this knife... not a single person has sent me a PM. Go figure.

WOW!
What a total jerk.No matter how you feel about buying for a profit (I am not against that) that was uncalled for.
I see threads often asking if Spydieguys is a good dealer to buy from and I post they are.NOT ANY MORE.

Still, Spydieguys is one of the only eBay dealers who has the guts to do straight, no reserve, auctions on most current models from Spyderco. I have seen FG Enduras, Police 3s and Pacificic Salts go for way below cost.

+1

Real auctions are drying up.
Not good.......

I will continue to buy from him.
IMHO he was put to death for a minor issue.
The guy sell's Spyderco's for a living.
Think about that for a minute.........
He made a minor mistake,......... maybe.
Who knew they would sell out in 8 hrs?
If they were still in stock today, (like the last forum knife)
He would still be a great to buy from. Right?
So, due to the odd demand on this one knife he is now deemed a bad guy?
I think not.
He bought 7 and is giving (2) away.
Big deal.

Food for thought........

I think the majority of the backlash against him isn't so much due to the purchase and resale of some forum knives or his justification of it on the boards, I think that it is due to the YouTube video that he posted about the forum knives where he ridicules the forum members that were extremely upset. It was a case of pouring gasoline on a smouldering flame. Right when things had started to settle down, he posted that video which stirred them up again.

Anyway, that's my read of the situation. Take it for what it's
worth.

At the same time, many of us also reacted quite strongly to some members' whining about not getting one.
The guy runs a business, he is supposed to make a profit. He may have had a bigger than expected return on those 7 (-2, actually, as MCM noted he SpydieGuys is giving away 2) Forum Natives, but what about all those auctions that end below cost?
Should he have restrained from commenting about the whole issue: definitely. Should he be excluded from our Forum, I do not think so.

He wasn't excluded, he decided to not participate here actively any more, but he still reads.

Maybe, when the dust has settled and the emotions cooled down, he will come back again. I think he is a great guy, but only has his own special way. He made himself perfectly clear in his last comment on this topic. Not everybody may agree, but hey, it is still a free country (more or less, same over here, **** those terrorists) and we should accept that. Nobody could know in advance that knife would sell out so fast. Maybe he wouldn't have bought seven of them otherwise.

And, although a bit "in-your-face", the video WAS kind of funny :D

I'm not sure if I have commented on this yet? Jess has been a good upstanding member of the Spydie Forums and up until recently I am certain he hadn't been seen in a negative light.

Personally before this Forum Knife was even conceived there were thoughts by many Spyderco staff and many members here that this might be another financial flop for Spyderco. I also thought - oh no ! Sal is going to take another hit in his hip pocket just to please the ever-demanding forumites :p

I wouldn't have ever dreamt that the demand on this was going to be red hot. Considering the Global Financial Crisis we are currently in as well as historical sales etc... Senoir forum members here have commented on this and also cast their thoughts on the posibility that Spyderco may not sell the full complement of the 300 run. I thought OK maybe 200 max.

So someone like Jess (he's not the only person to have bought multiples) bought a few thinking OK it's a sprint run and he could maybe sell a few in his web store. Then everyone (OK some people) turn on him. I doubt he did this maliciously. He doesn't have a crystal ball and couldn't have foreseen this coming. Heck ! I didn't either... otherwise I would've got one for myself ! :D

Anyway, I feel it is a shame for all the adults here to turn to what is tantamount to cyber-bullying which has obviously made Jess/ Spydieguys resign his forum membership. FWIW I thought he did a shitload to promote Spyderco and their products on a global scale.

I suppose you can give credit to him for owning up to what he did when some don't. And also his giveaway of the forum knives must hold some weight as well. Also I saw his YouTube video.... can't say that he was really doing much more than expressing his opinions in a lighthearted way. But that is just my opinion. Others have obviously taken it as insulting. I don't see why he would intentionally do so.

Anyway - back to celebrating what looks to be a nice knife. Hoping to get mine from a friend soon (I think it was from an esteemed forumite from the UK :D )

Ok, I missed the primary sale but persistence and fortune resulted in one in the hand and one on the way. That said, if there was a second run, I would buy more.

I don't fault anyone for buying more than they needed personally with a motive to turn a profit. The last two forum knives were limited to two per buyer. The rules changed for this run. I don't think there has been a forum knife yet you could not get your money back on in the secondary market eventually. Most forum knives will turn a good profit if kept long enough. When someone buys knives like that, they are risking their cash. A knife dealer can't have cash tied up in inventory -- you have to move the metal! Jess probably barely makes a dime or even takes a loss on some of his Ebay auctions. He was smart, bought a few extra Forum knives and stands to make a few hundred dollars in quick profit. That is business. Then Jess decided to give away two forum knives just for subscribing to him on YouTube. That is love of knives and knifelovers. I understand that promotes his business. All I have to say is "Good for him!"

I whined like a baby when I had missed out on the primary sale. The video was just good fun and I laughed even before I had secured secondary purchase of a Forum knife.

I really do not understand the aversion to profit by many people in this country!

I have also seen 154cm M2's sell for OVER $100 when you could snag the same knife online for $30 cheaper that same day. There are benefits of going full-auction as well.

I ran an online business and never got into forum emotions or posting Youtube videos of babies crying. If he decided to cancel his membership to the forum that was his deal (just like buying 7 knives which might be noticed on the biggest auction website in the world). Nobody should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "manning up".

Regardless, buy what you want from who you want. If you like Jess, do business with him. If you don't like him and he has a screaming deal on a particular auction...well, maybe you should reconsider your feelings. Business is about the bottom line and keeping your clients happy, not feelings/emotions.

OK, and that's the point where it is going insane.

3 times the original price.... whow.

It will become cheaper again, but some people just don't want to wait, I guess.

Well, good for Jess. Let's hope forum members without one will win the free two pieces he is giving away.

I agree, it is just a Native with purple FRN scales and some extra etching, after all.
I wonder if the buyer is a Forum member...

Too me it was not the buying of the knives for resale.Although not in the spirit of the knife Spyderco put no limit on them so anyone could have bought as many as they wanted and resold them.We are capitalists after all.
The youtube thing is what will keep me from buying anything else from them.
IT WAS AS CHILDISH AS YOU CAN GET!
Its one thing saying something in the heat of the moment but that video took a while to put together.

If you've decided to collect all variations of the Native then you must have the 2009 Spyderco Forum Knife.

With any serious collection it is difficult not to see just how far you can take it.

It is possible and affordable, not to mention deeply satisfying, to collect all variations of the Native. You could probably do it suning yourself and enjoying refreshing beverages while on the beach at Makapuu with your netbook while watching for the inevitable beautiful wave sets to roll in just for you. http://aceuhmanoa.files.wordpress.com/2 ... _beach.jpg

So many other things are beyond reach at any price...

Another has come up on Ebay from a different seller, I wonder how many people will be tempted by the selling prices of the 4 so far ?

Wow there are some folks here that never cease to amaze me. If I was in Jess's shoes my video would not be near as lighthearted. If you guys would have stepped on my toes like Jess's I would have for sure been up in your face. It's time to quit beating this dead horse for crying out loud. You people keep on going like you are going and Sal will probably never do anything for us forumites again. It's time to grow up people....It's a purple knife for crying out loud! There are far more important things to worry about in my life than wether some guy bought 7 forum knives. I suggest we let this thread die, and i hope Kristi locks it.

Oh ya David I know we did the peanut butter and jelly thing, lets do Hamburgers this time. I like lettuce, pickle, a fried onion ring on bottom, BBQ sauce , and a little mustard. :D
