Torx Driver Perfect for Spydercos

#1

Post by Farmer Brown »

Perfect for switching clip positions. The extra bits store in the handle itself, and it costs only $6. A very high - value purchase, in my humble opinion.

I posted this on some other forum, but thought it would be handy to have it here for other members:

Remember not to force the screws into loosening! A gentle, persistent twist is all that's needed; anything else would strip them easily. As my grandfather said, "...if you're forcing it, you're doing it wrong."

I agree, it is a great tool for the nifenut. However, a word of warning for people like myself. I found it very easy to spill torx drivers all over the place when opening the handle/storage area.

Me too. I also have a similar no-name philips/flathead screwdriver. Both have been extremely handy.

Not bad, but I prefer Wiha drivers myself. Great quality!

I have that and I also picked up a similar Kobalt one for Lowes. I end up using the Husky one more because it fits better in my hand.

Well worth the $5!!!

My BM Blue Box fits rather poorly in their respective torx screws' screw heads. I got a Husky kit for $5, and they were even smaller; the fit was even worse.

Roger, Wiha makes excellent tools, no question. The downside is they're roughly four times as expensive and, at least in my area, impossible to find locally, so tack on another few bucks for shipping. They might make sense for someone who does a lot of tinkering with their knives, but for the guy who just wants to move a clip or two and perhaps tighten the occasional loose pivot, the Husky or Kobalt sets make more sense, especially if they want to move the clip on their new knife today. Been using my Husky set for five years, haven't damaged a screw with it yet.

I have the Craftsman one too, no problem damaging torx screws. One of the very small bits-I think the T6 is starting to twist and become distorted, though, but it still seems to work fine-maybe I'll take it to Sears one of these days and get it replaced.
