What do you collect?

Collected knifes for about 20 yrs. Sold almost all and collected MT's from the mid 90's till they turned crappy mid 2000's.. Moved to BM, Now Spyderco has stolen the show. Mainly P/E with only a few special models in FRN.
Will buy every S90v CF P/E they produce.
Have probably picked up over 100 Spyderco's in the past 2 yrs. At least (2) of the same model of the ones I really like. S90v Mili, Stretch II's, Mules, S90v M2, ZDP Lums, Dodo's etc. If there is nothing current I want, there is 20yrs of older models I am searching for........ Not sure where its going to end........ :D

Right now I'm just a general collector. My tastes run toward the following; in order of preference.

• Lefty friendly knives, generally mid-upper priced midlocks.
• Knives with colored handles
• H1 Knives
• Knives that are much cheaper than they should be. (This one requires a little explanation. Example; I was not really interested in the Military but I found a NIB one for $80 and picked it up solely because it was so cheap.)
• Ethnic Designs

I used to be really into the Dodo but sold most of mine because I wanted to try some new models, although I guess still having four is kind of excessive. :cool:

Also, apparently I like the green handled knives, had no idea about this subset of my collection until color talk came up on another forum. Certainly isn't intentional.

I did collect all kinds of Spyderco's and Benchmade's. I sold a lot of them last year and changed them into full customs by many of the guys that do collabs or make nice tacticle models. I probably doubled my custom collection... Emerson, Ryan, Elishewitz, Elson, Lightfoot, Nihiser, Osbourn, etc etc...

Don't feel like I ditched Spyderco...I still have 50+ models.
The models I kept:
Police, Military, Civilains, Workers in every config I can find.
The really old ones too and updates to those like: Walker, Horns, shiny CF models, Bone handles and specials like the 25th.

One prime example that I wasnt expecting was my khukuri, I went out on a big whim with that one lol. I just wanted a plain edge ffg and I didnt have a foliage green spyder yet so I said what the heck Ill try this weird looking one! And sure enough its another badass spyderco! So basically whatever appeals to me and I find interesting I'll usually go for it. Same goes with the ukpk I was curious of the slip it. So I got one! :)

I'm in denial about the word 'collecting' (Hey, I only have 10 Spydies on hand, with another Spydie on the way). I tend to be drawn towards 3-inch blades and shorter, and I am trying to 'pick up' (again, denial...) as many examples of different blade steels, different-colored handles, and different locks as possible, with as few duplications of models as I can manage. I got a BM mini grip mainly because of the powder blue handle and axis lock. I would have considered pursuing a discontinued lime-green mini grip, and then there was the announcement of the USN forum Endura, of which I was fortunate enough to get one. Yea! I would have considered pursuing a discontinued purple mini grip, and then again came the announcement of this year's purple Native forum knife. Again, yea! The feel of the USN Endura in my hand is starting to work against my bias against the bigger knives. I have carried it in my pocket once, but I will probably make that one a safe queen (along with my T-mag), since I have a pink ebay CE Endura on the way (as 'non-threatening' of an occasional edc Endura that I can think of). I may try to pick up an ATS-55 Cricket at some point. My Ti Salsa is probably (?) my most 'collectable', although the CE edge makes it less desirable to most, than the PE. I still think it's a cool knife, although it doesn't always seem to open smoothly (a blade alignment problem?). I would dearly love a Kopa, although I have a hard time justifying the price for such a 'small knife'. I'm not even going to try to justify my 'logic' for the previous sentence. My recently acquired Lava is now my 'formal dress' knife. I would buy a cbl SE orange Dodo in a heartbeat, and when a yellow-handled H1 hawkbill Ladybug comes out, I will buy that, too, to go next to the 'regular' ladybug on my cable keychain. I'm looking forward to seeing what the 'Boy Scout' knife will be like (please, locking blade and jigged-bone handle). I would still only consider this 'picking up' a few new models to 'try out'...

I started out with Spyderco, then I turned custom for years.

Now, I have come full circle, and am buying Spyderco's again. Frankly, custom knives are wonderful, don't get me wrong, however there are some Spyderco models that are just as good as custom knives if not better.

As for Spyderco's I like the SS and FRN models along with some of the G10 and CF. I guess it depends on how the knife hits me when I see it.

At the moment I am infatuated with orange models, I LOVE the orange Military!

My EDC more often that not, will include one of my custom knives along with a Spyderco, SAK, Hinderer Kubaton and a Surefire.

Mostly Natives, Rescues, and recently, Hawkbills. (Wish I could find the older Spyderhawks!) Can't wait to get the H1 Spyderhawk, as well as the UKPK Rescue, and of course, the Forum Native. But I really fall into the "whatever strikes my fancy" group. I have a good mix of everything from a White Ladybug to an older Aluminum Police, sizewise.

I do, however, collect different versions of some models, particularly the Spyderco Military, Manix, Para-Military, Endura, Delica, and Kiwi.

Depends on how you defne the word "collect", I guess. I have lots of knives. Some get carried from time to time and others reside in a case or drawer. I think I mostly have an "accumulation" of knives. My flock of Kiwis would, in my opinion, constitute a small collection. Maybe I am being too narrow in my definition. Perhaps a brand name such as Spyderco ties those knives together into a collection. I suppose having my CC# on a bunch of them does that. In fact, that is a good reason to have a CC# and a good excuse to keep buying Spydies.

I started collecting about 20 years ago. For a long time I bought anything with an edge. About 10 years ago I began focusing on Spyderco and a few other brands. Then, a couple of years ago I sold everything I could find that wasn't Spyderco to buy more Spydies. I primarily buy whatever strikes my fancy. That seems to be the larger Spydies, Especially the Military, Manix, Endura, Police, etc.

i guess that i mostly collect spydies that i plan to actually use... with a few bargains, and "that's just too cool not to have!" knives thrown in for good measure...

now that my carry needs remove mostly around H1 (with the odd dress knife here and there), it's harder to justify purchasing some of the new models, which aren't always well suited to the weather here, or my hobbies...

that's okay, though... i need the extra cash for more chokwes, and the upcoming H1 spyderhawk!!!!

Persians and Kopas would rank up there close to the top ! Though recently a lot of things happening in my life are making me reconsider this hobby and the lines of collection I am taking. Might have to 'refine' it even more.

I never considered myself a collector. I'm more of an accumulator, and knives just happen to be one of the things that accumulate around me. :D However, I seem to be collecting Police Models of late.
