Jimping on my Spyderco Khukuri

#1

Post by burningpit »

I've swapped out knives recently and have been carrying my Khukuri as my EDC. Great design and fit and finish is top notch. Can anybody recommend someone that can put jimping along the finger choil and blade spine? I know Schempp designs are always smooth and has clean lines but I would feel more comfortable with the jimping when I choke up on the blade. Any suggestions or photos of custom jimping jobs would be appreciated.

I second that! If anyone out there knows someone professional that could do this for us I'd love it! I love my khukuri but its just missing the jimping and would be awesome if it had that extra bit of grip. It would make using it feel a bit safer and more comfotable.
I hope someone chimes in here :)

Its a user right? Grab a dremel and file and do it yourself. That is what I've alsways done in the past. here is a Caly Jr I did myself and it didn't turn out too bad. Ignore the missing screw though.

Regarding the Mariner, I'd rather not have my knife come back looking like a kitchen counter top. :D

Work on a Spyderco

#6

Post by KaliGman »

STR could probably do jimping fairly easily, if he has the time. Check out his forum on Bladeforums or PM him here (he is a member). He did the work on my custom Lava (G-10 scales, lowrider titanium pocketclip) and does framelock conversions for Emerson liner locks. Jimping should be child's play for him.

I've seen some very nice jimping and filework done on Spydercos. Mickey Yurco's personal Enduras are very nicely done. With his custom knife making and law enforcement careers (plus teaching martial arts), he is probably too busy to take on a simple jimping task, though.

I really like what youve done here. I dont know why i havent considered this knife, but now i can visualize it in my pocket.

Jimping on my Spyderco Khukuri

#13

Post by burningpit »

After carrying it for a couple of days, the jimping work was well worth it. The jimping on the finger choil gives enough resistance to prevent your index finger from sliding up on the blade. Even when you're not choking up on the blade the jimping on the blade spine gives you a perfect place for your thumb to rest on. Overall, the knife is more secure in the hand and I feel much more comfortable using it as a EDC now. Not being able to undo it was definitely a concern for me but after seeing the work STR does, I was confident that he would do a good job. I would highly recommend his services to anybody.
