Leafstorm or Kopa?
Im looking for a small sub 2.5 inch blade knife for EDC because the knife laws are a bit strict here.
Ive been reading up on both and I wanted to get some opinions on which one is better because I do not have many stores here that carry those knives.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say go with the Kopa. I'm not crazy about the Leafstorm's lack of anything to prevent your hand from moving forward onto the blade. The Kopa feels good in the hand, cuts very well, and you can choose between quite a few different scale materials. The bolster and scales construction, IMHO, offer another advantage as well. It makes the Kopa look more like what most people who are not knife enthusiasts think a pocket knife looks like.

I have to agree with The Deacon and go with the Kopa.

Given the kind of cutting I do, the sliding of my hand forward would not be a huge factor. I agree that this configuration of the leafstorm is not exactly ideal for jabbing/spearing/stabbing, but, for general pull cuts I think its suited for my applications. And as stated above, the kopa does have many gorgeous options to choose from. But man o man what id do for a leafstorm....The Deacon wrote:I'd say go with the Kopa. Depends what you want.
If you are looking for a more traditional Spyderco to build a foundation of knives on, I would say go for the Kopa - classic ltd edition line from Spyderco with lots of fans and history (not to mention the choil).
If you want something different, get the Leafstorm - its a bit non-traditional since (to Deacon's point) there is no choil and you have a far better chance of nicking yourself on the ricasso portion of the blade.
Only other major diff depends if you have a steel preference. Kopa is VG10 and Leafstorm is CPM S30V.
If you dont have many Spydies, I'd go for a Kopa (for me it fills the need for a dressy knife that is not NKP friendly).

spydernewbie,
Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay.
Regarding your question, I have strong preferences to Kopa. It has everything what I need: good look, full flat grind blade, finger choil, huge variety of handle materials (about ten can be found easy), also very non-knife people friendly. I carry Kopa Cocobolo for over two years and love it a lot.
Good luck.

I'm another newbie, who has & loves both, but carries the Leaf Storm far more often. I'm not sure I can articulate a good explanation why, except that I find myself preferring bigger blades, and the Leaf Storm gives me that "big blade, small package" feeling. The Kopa feels smaller in comparison than its specs would suggest. And something about the quirks of the Leaf Storm are delightful, to me. Anyway enough info & pix are out there for both, now, that you probably already have a gut feeling which one you'll like better. Get that one first. :-)

The leaf storm is very unique. But its just not for me. If I were you I'd go with the Kopa, I've been wanting to try one out for a while now but I just havent got around to it. I keep getting diff models  But whatever you end up choosing let us know and tell us if you like it!

In my opinion, your hand size would have a lot to do with your choice in this instance.
For me, the Leafstorm is a "three-finger" knife. It feels most comfortable to me held like a small chef's knife; that is with the part of the handle near the blade held between my thumb and forefinger with my other fingers "coming along for the ride." The Kopa fits securely in my hand like a conventional knife should. Probably much the better choice for most people. And, as others have mentioned, the Kopa is beautiful while the Leafstorm is, well, rather tactical looking.

Kopa :D
No other words of advice are needed. The rest above me have said it all. I'd choose Kopa - but I may be biased as I have about 30 of them ... maybe more? and gifted a few more. I don't regret any Kopa which I have bought. HOWEVER, I do regret some Kopas which I did NOT buy :p

SO true! Daniel nailed it. But be warned. The Path of the Kopa is not for the faint of heart. Once you start down it, there's no turning back! You will want MORE! :Dozspyder wrote:Kopa :D

I think that you are exaggerating. So far I have 14, gave away one to a good friend. I do not feel that I will need much more of them, may be one or two ............dozen. :D

I have a Kopa and really like it. Of course I am a Calypso and Dragonfly fan...big time. The Kopa fits right in between with some very pretty handle materials offered. Looking to get the Giraffe and or CF Kopa also. I have to admit I am interested in the Leafstorm but I can't afford to get them all.
