Stretch II CF pics: sanded and original

#1

Post by TD22057 »

I picked up a Stretch II CF and it's really ruined my EDC rotation. I just have a hard time picking up any other knife. It's almost the perfect knife.

The one thing I wasn't totally happy with is the peel ply CF because it hides too much of the beauty of CF. For my use, I don't need a super-grippy surface so I decided to sand it down a little. I took it apart and used some 320 grit paper to knock the raised parts of the resin down. I finally convinced a friend to buy one as well so I decided to take an original vs. sanded portrait. Angle's not quite the same but I think it shows the difference fairly well...

Looks nice. I agree the original CF looks like just dark grey G10.

Not to jack the thread or anything, but IIRC Sal stated that it is supposed to be out in the fall, no date though.

EDIT* CF looks amazing, great job.*EDIT

Nice job. Have to say, I've never have any trouble seeing the weave in any of mine. Gramted, it's a bit more subdued, but it's still quite visible. Just doesn't photograph well. But, beauty here, as everywhere, is in the eye of the beholder. Do agree the Stretch handle is so well shaped that traction is not an issue. I've never had any problems holding on to my Ligum Vitae one, and that's glassy smooth. So for those who like the way it looks without the peel-ply, smoothing the CF isn't really giving up anything.

Wow, that looks great!

I was starting to think that CF was a bit of a waste on my Manix 2 S90V, if I can get her to look like your Stretch 2 I think I might change my tune.

Thanks for the inspiration!

As THG asked, just take sand paper to the handle, and this is what it comes out like ImageImage

Thought that was fairly clear - if not, then yes - take it apart, sand the scales w/ 320 grit, and that's what it looks like.

I think you have to completely disassemble the knife so you don't sand over the pins and pivot screw.

Sorry about the terse reply - after rereading the question I realized it was more about taking it apart and less about the sanding. FYI taking it apart is easy - putting it back together was a little more difficult - the liner on mine was very hard to get back on all the pins - it took a lot of pressure and a little prying to get everything lined up. A friend of mines went back together much easier - your mileage may vary...
