Doc, thanks for your thoughts re: snubbies. I've been a "Colt Man" for many years, but I don't tote my Dick Special because I'm concerned about using a weapon that can no longer be overhauled. I'm told that gunsmiths capable of repairing the lockwork on a Colt wheel gun are literally dying out. My little Dick (yes, that's what I call him) is now retired, only to be loaded with A-Zooms the next time a Bogart movie comes on my TV.
Currently, I'm pondering which J-frame S&W to acquire. The number of variants are bewildering.

Lost Jaquar with the little Dick (Colt that is) My Colt Det. is back from 1964....so I know what you are talking about...I don't use mine either for the same reasons....Smith makes a pretty good product...but believe it or not Ruger makes em better...The Sp101 is built to last forever...I have over 50,000 .357 hot loads through one and my other has close to 100,000 hot loads through it...The guns look as good as the day I bought them....I will wear out much sooner then these Rugers every will....and they aren't any harder to carry and conceal than a J-Frame...actually the Sp101 because of the standard grips are more comfortable to shoot with hot .357mag loads than a J-Frame with an exposed backstrap is with using standard Vel. 38 specials or wadcutters....something to think about...Doc :DLost Jaguar wrote:Doc, thanks for your thoughts re: snubbies. I'm mostly a Glock guy; the 19 is, in my opinion, possibly the finest combat handgun ever made. Just sayin'...

Jim....I hate Glocks..LOL...I find that people either love them or hate them, and ...there seems to be no in between...I'm one of those who hates them. I have used them, trained Law Enforcement Agents with them in almost every configuration and caliber. But I will say this The Glock 19 is the finest, most accurate, user friendly weapon Glock has ever made. So though I hate em, I must agree with you that the 19 might possibly be the finest combat handgun ever made. I don't think a better choice could be made in weapons selection when it comes to handguns for most Law Enforcement Agencies. I find that even female agents can handle the 19 with authority and accuracy. And that is a plus in my book as those same agents might have problems with some other handguns....So you sir are spot on IMHO.....Jimd wrote:I'm mostly a Glock guy; the 19 is, in my opinion, possibly the finest combat handgun ever made. Congratulations, Doc, on your 5,000 posts! Whenever I see a post by you or the Deacon, I know I'm about to read some good, honest information. I often gauge the quality of a thread by seeing whether you and the Deacon have posted to them.
I'm a revolver fan as well, although I prefer longer barrels. Six inches is about right for me when it comes to barrel length. Smith and Wesson along with Ruger are my favorite six-guns.
