Hi, ATE, it was a time when I was quite into autos, amd even now I'm allways interested in finding out something new about knives. And an auto opening mechanism... it was quite cool when I was 20 yrs old and they were illegal. (they are perfectly legal now, on the condition the blade is under 13 cm and the edge is only one side) I don't like them now, though, as I don't consider them reliable. And, besides, having a spydie would you need an auto?
It depends on the knife, but mainly who is around when I open it.
If it is someone I don't know, an office bod or anyone else who might get upset (most of the country), I'll go as far as making it a two handed opening. Although since getting the Cricket most people don't seamed too phaesed by a one handed opening.
When I'm out of work or in friendly company it's nearly always the hole.
I don't like the drop as I don't like to alter my hand placement too much.
I sometimes wrist flick when I'm opening and closeing a Spydie for theraputic reasons, but never if I actually want to use the knife.
I do occasionally thumb flick the knife. This uses the hole and is a similar action to flipping a coin and means the thumb is only in contact with the blade at the start of the opening proceedure, it's probably a hang over from when my knives had thumb studs. It only works with liner locks, and so far I find the Howard Viele and Chinese folder the best at it.
Walk softly, carry a big stick.
