...and more colors...

Green - (Deacon, I Google searched for "Kelly Green" and the results were all over the place. Hope this is close)
Gunmetal Grey (wish I could put some metal flake in it, but I don't know how to Photoshop that...)

You requested non-afi market colors, so that is what I will do my best to provide.

I'm a college student, and I see what the younger generation is buying- and many of these colors, while totally awesome in my eyes, would go over like a lead balloon. The market, from what I have observed, wants black tacticals, silver/metalic folders, and organge utility knives.

If the goal is to win over the non-afi community to the awesomnes of of the FFG blade, you will need to have a black handled model. It just has to happen, or their going to find something else in black.

Other colors that will work well, but not as well as black, are
-Orange: the outdorsey folks, or those who work in an office w/ sheeple, those who loose stuff, or those who love orange- think poor mans orange military in terms of sales.
-Dark silver- NOT the goddard color, that wont do it for this crowd, way too bland. Think BMW silver, or darker.
-Coyote brown- for the military crowd, and the khaki crowd. Has to be a bit darker than the Tan endura.

All that being said, this AFI is WAAAAAAAAY pumped for the FFG goodness. Thank you Spyderco!

It's a lot easier to decide when you can see mockups. Good work Jabba. If I had to choose from the ones you presented, it would be:

1. teal - very nice
2. gun metal gray
3. green

No thanks on the coyote brown. Yuck.

I agree with Mark completely.

If I had to pick a couple colors I would go with a darker grey and a darker tan/brown. Black is an easy bet and a staple shade. You gotta ask yourself: "What would a college student feel cool buying?" and "What would my non-knife loving Dad use to open mail with?"

There are tons of AFI colors/models and I love the dark blue on the D4 wave because it doesn't have to be explained.

Hi Sal..

I was wondering if FRN could be made in a swirl of 2 or 3 colours.

Making each knife unique.

The swirl could be really contrasting colours.. Black and red.. or of similar colours like, grey and green (camo like)

I would not mind a chartreuse knife that could not get lost in the field, or under water.
Image

Other suggestions..

1. greyish-dark brown.

2. WHITE!!!!!!!!!

i vote for the glow in the dark as well it would help find the knife in low light conditions given you charged it with UVs before you lost it how about weaving different color fibers into the nylon making it similar to a micarta like a wood tone

Brown, teal, and that SKY BLUE is awesome... seriously! I feel funny saying this, but I would prefer a very high flat grind - not full. More strength, better looking, and still an excellent cutter. :o Please don't stone me. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.

As much as I love the scale pattern as well, I don't see that happening. FRN molds are insanely expensive, and that scale pattern would require new molds. Pumping in a new color of dye into the FRN, on the other hand, is a very simple and cost effective way to alter the look of a knife.

What a great idea. +1 for a glow in the dark variation- any color.

As for colors:

1) Orange, Orange, Orange!!! ...need I say more?

2) Light Blue. Think Yojimbo or Dodo blue.

3) Greyish Silver

4) Either Tan or a dark redish-brown.

Thanks

Post by SpyderPal »

Sal,

many thanks for letting us participate in a new project!

- clear - if technically feasible this would be THE positive eyecatcher - especially for all technically interested people, "cool people", ...

- gunmetal / dark gray

- maroon / dark brick red

- flat dark earth or a darker tan

- brilliant darker blue
All the best for you,
Manfred

Sal, thank you for giving us the FRN Stretch!
