The Delica IS NOT a drill...

#1

Post by vampyrewolf »

I was just helping my dad put up the extra storage area in our garage... well, he asked to use my knife, as his was in the house and he was in the attic. Handed him my Delica, and he used it to mark off holes in boards... <b>by twisting the <i>tip</i> in the wood!</b>

Broke off about 1/16", just enough to tell it's not needle sharp anymore... have to decide if I should have him retip the knife with the 204... yep, he's doing it...

Just a lesson for yah, the small tips are not for drilling in wood.

VM,

Ouch.

Hey, how do you go about "retipping" a Spydie on the 204? About all mine does is remove the tips, unless I completely avoid sharpening right to the end.

Yep, but from children of any age!

-Be carefull, it is very sharp!
-Ouch! I got cut.
-What did you do? Didn't I told you it was sharp?
-Yes, But I just wanted to try the sharpness with my finger and I got cut!
-Doh! <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

for re-tipping:

1> clean the flats of your greys.
2> set your angle(I use 40)
3> put your ~5lbs into the stones, and keep going on the last 1/2"-3/4"
4> go from a small tanto-type, and round it out.

That's why I got my dad a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> of his own. If he messes it up, he only has himself to blame, and I don't get mad at him for messing up my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I have used the grooves im my old 203 stones to reprofile tips. It works well for me.

Glasshartt,
I bought my Dad a Spyderco also. I've redone the tip on his Delica twice now. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Something about dad's and tools.

The solution - buy Dad a Lum Folding Tanto. He'd REALLY have to work at snapping the tip on the Lum Tanto!!

I'm sure he'd find a way to break the tip on a tanto if I gave him one... engine repair?

Might have to buy him a jester, or give him my small(2"ish) tanto folder(beater for $10)...

You may be right. If ever there was a customer for the $3.95 Maxam ripoffs of <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> designs <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Never, ever drill with a knife blade! It becomes an awl too easily and will happily take a chunk out of you.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Hey Vamp. What steel was in that Delica? Can you tell which grind, hollow or flat?
