Sage II w/Wood Scales

#1

Post by gull wing »

To give this super knife a Gentleman's look for special ocasions, I present fine hardwood scale for just now and then when you don't need it to be tough. Add a .032" titanium scale for strength and done.

Many thanks, I like to share my love of knives with you all.

The wood? - I don't know. A frend gave it to me years ago, said his brother got it from Mexico. He called it Mexican Ebony??? No Ebony in Mexico is there!

Exquisite!

Now we have to look for a designer/inventor that used Mexican ebony on his lock designs. ;)

Warm and rich looking wood. Well fitted to a capable knife. Was the wood difficult to work?

I was curious about this knew-to-me wood so I found some info:

Mexican Ebony: AKA Texas Ebony, Pithecolobium (Pithecellobium) flexicaule

Pics of a turned pitcher made of Mexican Ebony: http://traversi.org/hvme-pix.html (pic taken from this link, middle of page: http://traversi.org/hollow.php)

Beautiful job with beautiful wood. I did not think the Sage 2 could be improved upon but you managed to do it.

We have these trees all over the Phoenix area. They are nice when in bloom, but not too fun to groom because they have thorns. They also make good firewood, the wood is very hard. Of course after seeing gull wing's work I'm not sure I can bring myself to burn any.

Nice work yet again Rich... clean work.

That said... I dont care for it much. Wood handles and folders dont do it for me unless the knife has a bolster... Hint Hint. Ti Bolster?

Thanks again Sal.
Tricod, the bolster I could do, but would have to use a MUCH thicker liner to strengthen handle plus add a bunch of extra screws(3-bolster&2-scale).
oregon, thanks for the info.
Deacon, I think this is the first time you have ever commented on one of my mods, thanks.

Thank you all!
