FLYBYU44 wrote:Thanks for the review Wouter. I was all excited about this knife, but now I don't think I'll be getting one. It seems like an awesome blade shape that is somehow let down by a handle design that isn't quite up to par. Not Spyderco's fault as they were mearly trying to recreate Wilkens custom blade. I didn't really realize it until I seen your video and how the knife fits in the hand, certainly not up to the usual standards for Spyderco ergos.
This is a nice review - enough detail to let me know that I can remove it from my list of 'wannahaves'. I love the general look, translucent G10, Reeve integral lock and size, but the lack of choil potential to get nicked by the back end of the knife seals the deal for me. Would love to see that translucent G10 on something else, though :D .

Being dumb enough to use my Leafstorm, it must be dumb luck I haven't cut myself on the end of the blade. Although the point has touched skin no blood has been drawn.

The lanyard hole is very functional. I love its position while cutting with the lanyard around the wrist. It hangs well around my neck too, which is how I carry mine.

While cutting edge towards me I put my thumb nail against the end of the blade as a stop. My thumb in the riccasso prevents materials from sliding off the blade into the riccasso.

Just my experience. Sorry for the hijack.

I'll pass this knife, but the review was great, as always!

No hijack at all! Could you post a pick of your preferred grip?

I agree that with practice, one doesn't get cut quite as easily as it seems. After a while you get to know your knife and you just know by feel on the handle, when the edge starts. Compared to most other spydies, this particular learning curve is a bit longer.

The blade terminates very similar to a Benchmade Mini Grip. The sharp point on the Mini Grip has not given me a cut, so I think if you are aware of the potential for a cut from the sharp termination of the Leaf Storm blade you will be ok. I really like this knife and am looking froward to the production run.
