Pre-ordering upcoming knives

#1

Post by ErnestS »

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and quickly becoming a fan and owner of many :spyder: 's!

I have a quick (and possibly dumb) question about pre-ordering new knives. Is it possible to pre-order knives that are unreleased? I noticed that several vendors/dealers are taking pre-orders for the carbon fiber Kopa. Also, I would love to pre-order a G-10 DragonFly to get one as soon as it becomes available.

Thanks for all your help. I apologize in advance if this is a ridiculous question to ask. ;)

Yes it is possible. In fact, many people ordered the black Lum Chinese folder over two years in advance.

BTW welcome to the forum! Enjoy your stay here :)

Ernest,
Welcome to the Spyderco Forums. We hope you enjoy your time with us. The only ridiculous question is the one you don't ask. We're a pretty easy going forum, so don't hesitate to ask questions here.

Thanks for all the welcomes. So, I guess my follow-up question is whether I can pre-order the G-10 DragonFly through Spyderco? If so, is there a specific person that I need to contact at the company?

I doubt Spyderco does pre-orders.

Remember to always pre-order from a reputable dealer. Make sure they don't charge your card till the knife ships. If it is a Sprint Run, you might want to make sure where you are on the list.

With the exception of Forum Knives Spyderco does not generally take pre-orders themselves. Your best bet is to make arrangements with a dealer you are already doing business with. Next best would be to find a reputable dealer who accepts pre-orders. In the case of a model like the G-10 Dragonfly, which is going to be regular production once released, there probably will not be a whole lot of people who have already pre-ordered them.

Currently spyderco has not announced a price or a SKU for the g10 dragonfly. Once they do you will see more preorders become available.

Thanks everyone for the info. Since it may be a while before we see the G-10 Dragonfly, I decided to order a SS-etched Dragonfly.

Of course, I would still prefer the G-10 with wire clip, but I think the etched version will hold me over until the G-10 becomes available.

SS Etched Dragonfly is my "Suit" knife, when i want something classy and not too scary for Joe the Plumber. Just a nice pocket knife that does a great job.
