I've always avoided the SE, but this just occurred to me. Assuming use of the Tri-Angle, is it any easier?
I've got a PE Tenacious, a Raven and a Crow 'in-flight' to me now. I've already fondled the Tenacious locally, and it's a no-brainer.
Easier to sharpen a SE?

MUCH easier (for me anyway :p )
You only have to go through the first steps(the corners)
I can get my SE knives shaving sharp, but can't seem to put a decent edge on the one and only PE Spydie I have, my Salt 1/PE(was my very first Spydie so that's why I still have it, all the other PE's are gone :D )

As long as the SE knife is under 20 degrees they sharpen up extremely easy. If they are over 20 degrees you have to hold the knife at a higher angle relative to the Sharpmaker or rebevel the serrations. All of my Spydercos get tree topping sharp super quick on the Sharpmaker by working up to the UF rods. The next time I sharpen one I will use my sub micron lapping film stuck on the rods to see if I can match the factory hair whittling edge. It is so easy to sharpen SE's just by sharpening only the serration side until you raise a burr, then hit the back side as close as flat to the stone as you can get to remove the burr and you get a sharp edge very quickly.

I'm not sure of any videos, but the technique is basically a modification of the 3/1 stroke technique in the sharpmaker video. You just continuing sharpening the front side only, then once you have a burr the length of the edge you tilt the backside of the knife as close to flat to the other stone as possible (maybe 5 degrees or less) and do a couple light strokes until the burr is gone. For me it prevents thickening the angle too much on the serrations, though the 3/1 technique would work good if you want to increase the angle of the serrations due to chipping.VictorLouis wrote:Mike, is there any photo or video links which show that technique you've described?
